Feb 23, 2018 - Salaverry (Trujillo) Peru
Salaverry is the port closest to Trujillo, the second largest city in Peru. It is located north of the capital city of Lima on the Pacific Ocean in northwestern Peru. Some cruise ships embark or stopover in Lima before sailing north along the western coast of Peru and Ecuador towards or from the Panama Canal. Other ships include Salaverry as a port of call on cruises headed south from California or the Panama Canal to Valparaiso and Santiago, Chile. Most of the cruise ship shore excursion options in Trujillo revolve around exploring some of...

Feb 22, 2018 - Callao & Lima Peru
Today we stopped at the Port of Callao, Peru which is close to our largest city yet, Lima, the capital of Peru. We took a private five hour tour that was exhausting. The city is huge and traffic is absolutely out of control. The traffic police stand in the middle of a street and point to people who need to pull over to get a ticket. That takes guts (on the cops’ part)! These drivers don’t stop for anyone that they don’t want to stop for. The only exception we saw was one of those lazy dogs standing in the middle of the road “daring” our 40...

Feb 11, 2018 - Paracas by the sea and our Mexican evening
Here’s a thing. What happens when you put suncream on and then change your shirt and shorts and go out on a bike without remembering that there are exposed parts without suncream on? Answer you get red knees and arms boooo. Fortunately you do not look like someone who still has the outline of her swimming costume showing even when she has taken it off. Obviously no names mentioned. So last night we had the long awaited Mexican evening. They had set up drinks bar, food bars and everyone serving were dressed up in what I assume were typical...

Feb 11, 2018 - Easy like Sunday Morning
For the first time in a long time we do not have a program for anything. So lie in today well at least til 8 o'clock, then breakfast and lying by the pool and playing along the beach. I have put some photos that did not make original entry from plane flight to Mexican evening and sunset. So enjoy. We move on later back to Lima for tonight and then onto Eucador, leaving Peru behind, leaving only footsteps in the sand but taking some many wonderful tear jerking moments and experiences that we will treasure for a life time, from Titicaca to...

Feb 10, 2018 - Paracas and the island of somewhere
We had found out last night that the boat trip was from the end of the hotels pier and we had to be there for 8am. They also told us that there was coffee and croissants available at the pier and we would be back in time for breakfast so a lay in until 7. On arrival we found good coffee and croissants so we got ready to go. In truth we had forgotten that this is Peru so things don’t always happen at the time they mentioned. A chap had arrived in a very complicated wheelchair and they we were looking at how to manhandle him and the...

Feb 10, 2018 - Saturday 10th February finally caught up on my Blog!
Had a lazy start today as we were heading out to the national park on a remote island outpost called Ballestas island via the hotel speedboat. It was a beautiful increasingly hot morning at the hotel, but s we speed our way out to the islands, the sea mist lay thick ahead of us. We sped out to a small Penisular were a giant cactus known as the chandelier had be created. This sign post is on the direct flight line to the Nasca lines and is thought to have been the signpost for the aliens to take them to the centre of their activities. We...

Feb 10, 2018 - Friday 9th Lima to Paracus and the Nasca Lines
I woke early at 4am as I needed to catch up on the blog, I have so many days, so many photographs from the Jungle to load today, but decided to catch up with my wonderous script catching each and ever moment. We boarded the shared transport today and we had 2 extra guests, Chinese Americans in with us. Very Unusual. So off we headed and for the next two hours we bumped and popped the horn, until we got to a service station 1/2 way. We jumped off, brought some biscuits had a wee and returned. What happened next shall be known as "The Chinese...

Feb 9, 2018 - Thursday 8th Lima with a half day tour.
Well here we are in the Capital city of Peru, Lima. Dave and Irene had arrived there originally from the UK. Had a swift breakfast and was greeted by our guide Sonia. She had plenty of knowledge and understanding but as we had heard the Pre Inca, Inca and Spanish eras it was very difficult to remain engaged. It was further strained when it appeared that the City tour was being conducted at speed and without photo stop opportunities due to traffic and time constraints. This clearly was not on but after a few poorly chosen stops for...

Feb 9, 2018 - Tues 6th Feb Early Am down to the claylick
Surprisingly as I was the last one awake, and Alison was up showering. Today we had a slightly later start 6:00 to go to the claylick to see the early morning parrots at the claylick. We troupe along in our now familiar line but now with a greater awareness of our surroundings and what signs to look for. Although having said that as soon as you do not look where you are stepping, you soon become a cropper falling over. We did note that Daves arms were covered in itchy bites and where the bites were not present he had an allergic reaction to...

Feb 9, 2018 - Monday 5th Night Trek into the Jungle
I must say having been up since 4am and marched at least 10 km through the jungle and up and down rivers and Lakes the thought of Nother trek was tiring, but this is a once in life time opportunity. So following another shower and clothes wash we were ready to go. Please note that this is the rainforest, we have not seen rain for a whole day, it was hot even for the locals today up to 32c but with 100% humidity this is draining. Our boot socks were now standing and waiting for us to go. I am sure the first signs of trench foot are being...

Feb 9, 2018 - Tuesday 6th PM local farm and sunset river trip and journey to Lima
After our visit to the tree, shower, and lunch we had a late afternoon trip to the local farm where. the food from the hotel was produced. The site was just across the river and as we approached the plot the farmer and his wife were working on the land in baking hot sun. The area had been cleared of rainforest to grow the crops and there little cover for the workers. The huts provided little more than cover and were built from the trees felled during the clearance. As expected the farm had many sorts of fruits, potatoes, herbs, rice,...

Feb 9, 2018 - Paracas and the Nazca Lines
Today we left Lima to journey down to Paracs and see the Nazca lines. Another early morning start at 5:30 to pack and get ready with our coach leaving at 7. The coach had two passengers already, both American/Chinese who seemed pleasant enough. The idea was to get out of Lima before the rush hour traffic started. The day was foggy from the sea mist and traffic slow. Everyone was trying to get to their destination and I am glad that I was not driving as it was chaos. How there are not more accidents I do not know. I was cringing at every set...
