Jan 21, 2015 - Mancora to Lima

Boo hoo, our last beach day. Following breakfast we pack up and head to the beach to soak up the morning sun until we have to check out at noon. Our bus doesn’t leave until 6:00pm however we decided to leave the hotel and store our bags at the Excluciva Bus Station and have lunch in town and wander the beach there. The morning started out cloudy which was just fine with us as it made the 30C bearable and we still managed to get a nice tan colour. We stayed as long as we could, then showered and off to town in our final mototaxi – they...

Jan 19, 2015 - Mancora, Peru

What a beautiful morning we awake to. The sun is shinning, not a cloud in the sky and the beautiful beach of Mancora is right outside our window! We don’t waste any time heading downstairs for breakfast and the make a b-line to the beach. We walk for a couple of kilometres to see what we can see and the plunk ourselves into the soft cushions of the bamboo structure beach chairs. Finally, back into the bathing suit (well actually not one of my favourite wardrobe pieces) and toasty warm with the sun on our skin and faces. We relaxed for...

Jun 1, 2014 - Days 285 to 289 - Mancora & Trujillo (Peru)

The bus from Chachapoyas left at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 27th May and arrived in Chiclayo at around 5.00am the following day (what is it with this maddingly early arrival times at final destinations?), and it was not long before Amelie and Dorien arrived on their bus. We decided to head north to Mancora, for a day’s RnR, so it was across town to book another bus ticket and luckily there was a bus leaving at 10.00am, so only a four hour wait. We did venture into the town for some breakfast, but nothing opened until 8.30am, which is very late for...

Feb 20, 2013 - Week 21 - Huaraz, Huanchaco, Mancora (Peru)

Early during our first day in Huaraz, two girls checked into our dorm, Priya and Ash, and said they’d booked on to a 10am tour to Llanganuco lake. Since we quite fancied visiting the glacier lake too we decided to join the tour. Big mistake. After a 3 hour bone shaking drive via Carhuaz and Caraz we arrived at the Huascaran national park by the shore of a small and not overly impressive lake. As the guide only spoke Spanish we had no idea where we were and what we were supposed to be looking at and thought it was a break to get some lunch....

May 25, 2012 - Una tenda in riva al mar

My Big Trip

Sep 18, 2011 - Surfers mecca.

Mancora, Peru 18/09/11 Surfers mecca. We had booked a bus to Piura in Peru, but as another group of guided tourists seem to be getting off in a place called Mancora, a surfers paradise, and I wasn’t feeling great, we decided to get off early by a few hours. Out of the middle of the desert you arrive in this tourist centre with hostel, bars, surf shops and tourist tat. For the entire trip from Ecuador all there was, was endless desert followed by fish farms and sugar cane fields, and then back to more desert. The surf looked good here but...

3rd Gap Year

Jun 19, 2010 - Mancora

Mancora (3 - 6 June) Ahhh, back to beach life. The last beach we saw was almost two months ago in Brazil so to finally make our way back to the coast to enjoy some sunshine and downtime was a welcome reward. Mancora isn't by any means a short trip from Cusco so we checked the bank balances and splurged on a flight to cover half the distance. The flight arrived in Lima and the remaining distance was covered by a bus that was another enjoyable 20 hours. Mancora is a extremely rugged town comprised of one main road with a few beach bars and...

Jun 11, 2010 - Mancora - THE END

Being us and therefore totally illogical we decided that, in the interests of coming home nice and brown we would head 40 hours up the coast of Peru for one last week of tanning//partying. Mancora is a small town on the beach where lots of Gringos go to surf and relax- the Loki hostel here is gorgeous, more like a hotel with a huuuge pool and lots of sun loungers. We managed to arrive in time to celebrate my 19th birthday at midnight, which we did in style, dressed as plants (don´t ask) and dancing on the bar. Mum and DAd gave us some money...

Apr 8, 2010 - the borderline

Jan 12, 2010 - Mancora...a new day a new country

Our first stop in Peru. The accommodation is basic, there are 4 of us sharing a room, the weather is hot and humid, and there is very little to do. We have 2 days here, I wish we had only 1 day here, and an extra day in Cuenca. I think many others agree, though there are a few who prefer the beaches here. The town is beautiful, though small, straddling both sides of the Pan American Highway. As said there are only 2 things to do in the town, sunbathe or surf. I have had enough of sunbathing, spending a large proportion of my time on the...
