Jul 28, 2005 - Cusco to Puerto Maladondo - The Jungle

We flew from Cusco to Puerto Meladondo. The heat and humidity hit us like a wall when we deplaned onto the hot tarmac. After a wait we got into a bus and went to the village where we had to unpack our belongings, (my overwieght luggage made it through no problem by the way) and repack for the jungle. We are only allowed 5 kg in a daypack for travel now. I did it. We got on a river boat and had a local lunch. we travelled for about an hour down river and then had to get out to hike overland for 2 miles to the Sandoval Lodge channel to meet...

Jun 22, 2005 - Manu National Park - Welcome to the Jungle

Our itinerary for this leg of our trip has changed drastically during the course of our travels. Originally, we had planned to fly from Lima to Cusco, hike the Inca trail to Machu Piccu, then make our way down to Puno and Lake Titicaca. The plan had us crossing Lake Titicaca into Bolivia, which makes up the eastern shore of the lake. Well, Bolivia has been politically unstable for the past month or so (strikes, food and gas shortages, etc.). We decided to skip that destination. We also realized that it is cheap and easy to get around Peru...
