Feb 16, 2010 - deep in the rain forest

Today again we were up at 630 for breakfast. This time it was wellies on as were going to stop at a very small village as part of the tour in the morning. We also saw three toed sloths along with an assortment of birds and monkeys. One particular magnificent bird was the horned screamer. He is so loud and large and has a horn on his head! We saw many noisy parakeets and vultures as wells as toucans and woodpeckers. Our visit to the village on an island in the middle of the river was an eye opener. June's Sabbatical

Feb 15, 2010 - down the amazon

Got up at 630 this morning ready for breakfast at 7. We were on our first excursion at 8. We got into the skiff and passed down the Ucayali river spotting wildlife on the way. Eventually we ended up at a creek, where we met dolphins and herons waiting for the fish to leave the creeks. The water in the creeks is not well oxygenated, so the birds and dolphins hang around the mouths and wait for the fish to exit. My first dolphin was, would you believe, a pink one!
