Feb 22, 2018 - Callao & Lima Peru

Today we stopped at the Port of Callao, Peru which is close to our largest city yet, Lima, the capital of Peru. We took a private five hour tour that was exhausting. The city is huge and traffic is absolutely out of control. The traffic police stand in the middle of a street and point to people who need to pull over to get a ticket. That takes guts (on the cops’ part)! These drivers don’t stop for anyone that they don’t want to stop for. The only exception we saw was one of those lazy dogs standing in the middle of the road “daring” our 40...

Dec 21, 2012 - last day of side trip

12/21 from Urubamba to the ship We didn’t have to get up quite so early today. A buffet breakfast was served with extremely strong coffee. Here we watched a weaving demonstration all the way from washing the alpaca wool to creating woven fabric. The dying of the fibers is a knowledge that has passed from generation to generation. Of course following the demonstration, we were allowed time to shop in...

We saw lots of blue plastic on and around homes. We learned that these plastic sheets were in place to prevent the spring & summer rains from washing away the...
