Feb 27, 2014 - Hot in Peru

This morning we set out in at T-shirts to explore the city. We are staying in an area called Miraflores. Traffic is crazy! Cars going ever direction and shoving their way in. You don't dare cross the street unless it says "WALK" and even then you better hurry! Once the light changes green the cars are off! As in Brazil, cars seem to have the Right of Way. Cars were driving through the gas station instead of waing for the light, motorcycles were driving on the sidewalk! I don't know how the people could back out of their drives on to the...

May 13, 2013 - curse the 64gb memory card

So my specially bought huge memory card is fuck all use as the tablet won't read it. So I have to go buy a new one >.< however got some on Louises camera today which it will read. Wandered round Miraflores this morning, went to the beach and ate our dinner then headed for a wee hour bus tour of Miraflores. The sun had managed to burn off some of the fog by then so apart from homicidal tree branches it was a nice wee cruise on the open top deck

Apr 20, 2013 - Miraflores, Start of 'Absolute Peru'

Apologies, photos are taking too long to load, will just show you wen I'm home! After a good nights sleep and a slightly strange breakfast, I went to explore the district of Miraflores. The streets are fairly busy as its Saturday, ladies shopping, lots of runners, and children's skateboarding. Reached the seafront and there was a fairly thick mist from the sea coming over the cliff top. Followed the coast round to Larcomar. Lovely gardens, shopping area and cafes outside. Few clouds in the morning Thayer lift come midday to leave full...

South America 2013

Apr 19, 2013 - Day 1: LHR to Lima

Dramatic start to the trip!! Arriving at the check in desk to find I wasn't booked to fly was not ideal! So after a quick purchase of a new ticket and of course the emotional goodbyes, off I went. Stopped in Madrid, an easy change. And then on to the 13hours to Lima! Ok plane food but no TVs in the seats! Arrived in Lima and found my transfer. Sharing the taxi with 2 Swiss girls doing the Peru on a Shoetstring tour - so no worries, I wasn't alone at night! The road lane discipline and excessive use of car horns rivals that of Bangkok,...

May 31, 2012 - Peru- some further thoughts

Ok, as you have already figuredout I am s little bit behind with updating you all on my whereabouts & what I am doing. FYI, I am currently sitting in my hotel room in London about to set of on my tour of Britain & Ireland, however before I embark on that tour I guess I better finish of what I have to say about the last tour. On my tour of Peru, our first stoppevef was in the beautiful city of Puno, high up in the rockies, right next to lake Titicaca. Anyhow, Puno itself is nothing to write home about, however Lake Titicaca is... the...

May 27, 2012 - Summary of Peru

Peru, Loved it, hated it, wished I had never gone their but at the same time so glad I had gone their.. quite an emotional ridercoaster. From rising upto the top of the giant tittie on the way to Machu Pichu, to sinking to one of lifes great lows of nearly pooing ones pants, Peru had it all! To start off with, Lima was quite an eye opener, my second night their one of the local guys attempted to serrenade me with an evening meal & an offer one could only refuse (i'll let you all use your imagination for that one!), to trying to gain entry...

May 12, 2012 - Lima- Peru

After spending the last few days in Lima, most of my time has been either spent sleeping, eating or visiting museums (amongst getting lost a few times). Other highlights of Lima to mention would be the lovely bus tour I took... Although the first hour of the tour almost sent me to sleep (due to boredom & seeing only 1 thing in that hour) the remining 3 hours turned out to be quite engaging, exciting even... especially the bus drivers ability to cross the crazy streets of Lime in a big double decker bus! Other things I have done in Lima in...

May 9, 2012 - Hola! to Lima

Having spent a day to essentially cross the continent, I finally arrived at my Hotel in Lima. It appears that LAN's international arm operates to a higher standard, I didn't fear for my life on the 3 flights today... Anyhow, having left Rio at about 2:30 in th arvo, I got to the Hotel at about 2am (Lima time). Have got a good nights sleep & ready to explore my new surrounds (& possibly get lost again- a few times ;).)

May 30, 2009 - Lima

After an early morning to pick up the boys who had an amazing night with the shaman in the jungle. One was affected badly by the Arawsca in the first instance. He said he felt like he was so ill he was nearly going to keel over... sounds like a plesant experience, doesn't it???? The Brit felt as though he were in a conscious dream state. In the background he could hear chanting, in the foreground visions of past, future, friends and families. If there were a dream he was not particularly comfortable about, he said he'd simply jump into...

May 11, 2009 - Miraflores

I was lucky enough to have met up with to Aussie ladies we invited me to wander around Miraflores today. Miraflores is an affluent neighbourhood that could rival some in oz. It's known for its shopping areas, gardens, flower-filled parks and beaches. Although veiled in mist at the moment, it is very pretty. We walked to Larco Mar, a galleria cut into the high cliff face, Le Parque Del Amour or lovers seat that has beautiful mosaics and expressions of love from those who visit. The Parque del Amour or Park of Love is located near the...

May 10, 2009 - Finally in Lima

Post 8.59pm Sunday May 10. Although I had the intention to get out and about today to explore my surroundings I accidently fell asleep after my 6am breakfast. Then I accidently awoke at 6pm! I cant believe I slept that long! My hostel is nice with all the necessary amenities although I did jump straight into my premethrin soaked sleeping bag as i saw some uninvited friends on my pillow. Im trying to be mature and not gross out about it, rather turn it into a light form of entertainment when they venture onto my sheet and fall off within...

Aug 13, 2008 - Arrival

Well folks, after several years of daydreaming, my trip to South America has become a reality! I can hardly believe it myself, but I am sitting at a computer in a hostel in Lima, Peru, letting everyone know I made it ok and just trying to get into the travel mindset. I´m not quite into it yet, but that´s probably a good thing. I still have a little writing I have to do for my old job, so hopefully I can get that done by tomorrow and then let myself really be on vacation. My arrival here was a little crazy. After an overnight flight, all I...
