We arrived in the early hours of the morning after an overnight bus ride from Huaraz. The bus terminated in Trujillo and we took a 20 minute taxi ride to the coastal resort of Huanchaco with two Danes, Marianne and Klaus. Considering Huanchaco is a popular beach the beach itself isn't that spectacular. It was a narrow strip covered with lots of crabs and sea urchins. Many people come here to surf not only on the conventional boards but on the totora reed boats that the natives row out to sea to catch fish and surf their way back to...

Sep 2, 2005 - Huanchaco... petit village de pécheurs

Pour me reposer un peu avant l'arrivée de Gilles et notre visite du sud du Pérou. Rien de spéciale à raconter... ici c'est juste le temps qui passe à mettre açà jour mon journal, à me promener sur la plage et admirer les courageux surfeurs et à savourer les délicieux poissons à la plancha, à discuter avec les locaux des civilisations passées et surtout des civilisations pré-Incas surtout très visible dans le nord du pays. Et une question me taraude et je tiens à t'en faire part car si tu peux m'aider à y r'epondre.... je te ferai un gros...

Jun 15, 2005 - Peru: Huanchaco

It was a draughty and cold 9 hr night bus journey to Huaraz which is the main town in the Cordillera Blanca - a major trekking and climbing area. It has the highest mountains in South America and it's also where 'Touching the Void' was filmed. From Huaraz alone you can see over 23 snow capped mountains that are over 5,000m. We didn't have much time here as we needed to get to Lima in time to meet Dan & Jane..this meant not enough time to acclimatise or do any full-on trekking there.
