Jul 5, 2010 - Tingo Maria via Huanaco

Up at 7, shower - it is cold here but they provide lots of blankets (5 + comforter). We are better than yesterday so decide to catch the bus which leaves at 8. The canyon after a climb to 4500m. pass, is narrow - reforestation, mining, and hydro power seem to be main things going on here. At the pass and on way down we pass many llama 'ranches' (see pics). By 10 we are stopped for 2 hours due to road construction. We arr in Huanaco, get a tuktuk to downtown where colectivos/cars leave for Tingo Maria (we missed the last bus which we're told...

Dec 10, 2006 - City of Eternal Spring...

Hey everyone! Sorry about the delay of our update. Julie and I (Lauren) have been doing a lot of traveling over the past two weeks, making it hard to find the time to load pictures onto the website and write an update. We arrived "home" to FAIENAP last night (Monday, December 11th). We had just spent twelve hours on a bus coming back from Huanuco, Peru. We had to leave FAIENAP for about ten days due to a conference that was taking place. We had met Bruce Benson here at FAIENAP; he was acting as a consultant for the Bible translations. He...

May 5, 2006 - Chavin-Huaraz

May 30, 2005 - Cordillera Huayhuash - PHENOMENAL

30.05 Day 1 - Huaraz to Pacllon (DM) It was a dark and cold start as we woke at 4am to get organised for our bus at 5am. Pocho was waiting in the street as we stepped out and got us there just in time. The bus was again packed with Kim and I sharing the back seat with 3 others and a dog. This was also our first meeting with Esteban who was to be our guide / cook / arriero (donkey driver) for the next 5 days. We all instantly liked him. We arrived in Chiquian at 7:30am and had a long wait until 5pm for our connecting bus to the small village...

May 28, 2005 - Vilcabamba - Huaraz - Huanuco

Dec 22, 2004 - Peru

Out of Mexico I flew into Peru and landed in Lima, another vast metropolis and almost as polluted as Mexico City. My time with travelling with Stacey ended here; she headed off from the airport to meet her boyfriend who had come over to Australia. We met up a couple of times briefly in Peru, but this was basically the end of our time travelling together and I am a little scared and also excited about how I will go travelling on my own. I headed of to a hostel in Lima, arrived at about midnight looking forward to getting to sleep after a...
