May 24, 2009 - Peru: Cusco - Bless the SUV

This Saturday employees of the Cusco Textile Center (Jason's NGO) went to the Sacred Valley to "bless" the center's new SUV (yes, you're reading that correctly). We went to the church & sanctuary of "El Senor de Huanca" and had a priest bless the car with holy water. According to a local legend related to me that day, the church & sanctuary were built on the site where a sick miner was miraculously healed by Jesus in a cave. May 17, 2009 - Peru: Sacred Valley Harvest

We spent the weekend at the Chavez's corn farm in the "Sacred Valley of the Incas" and helped them harvest the corn. The farm is about 5 miles from the Pisac ruins and is next to the Vilcanote river. Seventy workers husked the white corn and set it out to dry while Kendall's job was to find the red & purple ears of corn (Japanese buyers want only white corn). The Chavez's, our host family, have been great and we already feel like we are a part of the family.
