Sacred Valley Today we went on a tour to the Cusco sacred valley. This meant another early start and then off by bus, first to a farm for Alpacas & Llamas & then on to the village of Pisac, a busy market town. Here we has lunch, did a little bit of shopping (mostly alpaca jumpers for the Inca trail). We did get some nifty little bottle holders, 2 for 1 pound. Then in the afternoon we went along the valley to Urubamba and on to the town of Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo is a pleasant town situated in the Valle Sagrado (Sacred Valley) of the Rio Urubamba. Although its only 15km north of Cuzco, it took us about 3 hours to get there - 1 hour waiting for 2 more people to share a taxi and the next two zig-zagging up one side of the valley and down the other! Although the main attraction is the huge Inca fortress that overlooks the town, we took our time exploring the narrow cobblestone streets that have been inhabited since the 13th century. Apr 27, 2006 - The Inca Trail
This morning was a early wake up call leaving the hotel at 6:00 AM we head off to Ollantayambo where we meet the other members of the hike, this is also a GAP group there are 6 from my group and 6 from the other group, joining to make the group of 12 people. Then we are off to the km 82 marker the starting point for the hike we have two guides, two cooks and 19 porters who carry most of our stuff.
