Jan 20, 2006 - Cañon del Colca

2 day trip to the Cañon del Colca and Reserva Nacional Salinas y Aguada Blanca. We spend the day seeing lamas and apacas, climbing up one of the mountains to see cactus, abanded inka houses and the most amazing landscape. After a breath taking (3600m!) trek we relaxed in the local thermal bath. The next day I felt really sick - might have been the alitude! And I wouldn't wish the feeling to anyone (fresh mate de coca helps). Still it was an amazing trip.

Sep 29, 2005 - Colca Cañon

This was our first trip into the Andes Mountain range, where we will be spending a lot of time over the coming weeks. We were picked up by our tour bus an hour late (expected by now) and the long journey on the winding roads began. Snaking up into the hills we climbed to our highest point of nearly 5,000m! Unbelievably, just sat in a bus, we still suffered with bad altitude sickness. Greg was plagued with a bad headache while Amy was physically sick - not what we expected at all!
