Oct 19, 2012 - Jaen to Chiclayo ...yeh!!
Up early to pack. Breakfast at 7am. Left for Bus station for at 8am. Bus supposed to leave at 830 left at nine. no A/c . As usual tv blaring ...unbelievable as everyone practically slept the whole way. Travelled throuhg the mountains on windy roads ...good job you couldn´t see what the driver was seeing. He passed a lot of vehicles on the windy road yikes but all was well. They are used to it. Passed through mountains, then lush land where the road traversed a river deep below, then onto the dry ,sandy, filthy area and onto Chiclayo. Back...Jump to full entry
Oct 17, 2012 - Wed day of soccer games !!!! (in the rain)
Well today, we got to the site and found that the maestro and his 2 sons (14 and 16) had shifted a load of bricks onto the roof area that will be the second floor. More bricks were delivered which we help stack in a pile. Julia and I then cleared up the work site of nails etc. At around 10am a load of kids arrived from the school we went to yesterday. They sang for us. Then they made teams up green versus blue with the soccer shirts Brian had bought with him. The boys played , then the girls played. For their age they had excellent...Jump to full entry
Oct 16, 2012 - Tues...good day apart from heat !!!
Managed to get some real work done at the site today. They had an area off the old kitchen(we are in the process of building a new one out of real bricks not adobe type bricks)that needed to be cleared as it had collapsed. So with pickax, shovels and wheelbarrow Tom, Julia, Brian and I started cleaning out the mess. It was dirty , dusty work so I didn´t stick around long. We made good progess though ,cleaning it up and at least we had something to do. Fred and George helped the workers with rebar tying on the roof of the building. They...Jump to full entry

Oct 14, 2012 - Sunday 24 hour sleep from medication I guess
Ok , so we ate at the usual restaurant in the Plaza de Armas. I was hoping for spaghetti but got a noodle dish with slivers of beef and green peppers in a soy type sauce.. it was ok but not what I wanted . we went to the pharmacy and that was a good half hour hassle. We even had an interpreter, a nurse helping and it was still difficult. I ended up getting some tylenol with some medication for flu symptoms and an antibiotic of some sort. Anyway I took the prescribed dose and slept the whole day. Waking up at noon only to have some lovely...Jump to full entry
Apr 29, 2008 - Peru
Here I sit, in an internet cafe in the dusty town of Pedro Ruiz, Peru- waiting for the next bus to Chachapoyas. In Vilcabamba, Helen left to travel north, and Charolette and I have made another friend (Mike from Britain) that is joining us in our journey south. Yesterday began at 6am waiting for the bus to Zumba along the barren road outside the hostal. The bus arrived about an hour late (damn! could´ve got another hour of sleep) so at that point we were just relieved it was running. The trip was 6 hours to the town of Zumba (close to the...Jump to full entry
