Jul 11, 2007 - Iguassu falls

Flew into Iguacu, Brazil. I was surprised by the cool weather. Visited the Brazilian Falls. Could hear the roar of the water walking along the gorge way before I could view the Falls. Definately should be on the must see list for all. The first view of the falls was incredible. So much water and mist. In comparison to Victoria Falls, Iguacu Falls are more beautiful to view because the water pours down over not one but some 275 different cataracts, spread over a precipice some 3 miles wide and 266 ft high. Where as Victoria Falls is higher,...

Jul 9, 2007 - Iguassu Falls

It'll be a few more days before I can add these photos, but bear with me... Our first day in Foz do Iguassu was accompanied by bad weather. It was chilly, cloudy and rainy and so out guide recommended that we cross the Paraguay border to shop around their black market. It wasn't such an eventful trip, as many of the electronics were closely priced to Canadian/US prices. It was however, very useful to get a closer look at people's day to day lives in this region. That evening the group decided on attending a Samba show in the area. It...

Nov 29, 2006 - Paraty - Iguazu Photos

Took ferry back from Ilhe Grande to mainland and then a bus to Paraty. Caught in a massive downpour in old town (see pic!). Had first JD and Coke since arrival! Next day took open bus to waterfalls and Trindade beach. Hiked in the rain to a beautiful rock pool for a swim. Trail was so vertical and slippery that we had to use ropes to climb down. Believe it or not, I made it without incident (well except for a rock that attacked me on the flat sandy beach later...). Crossed really dodgy suspension bridge at the falls but made it back to the...

Jun 5, 2006 - Paraguay - The Road Less Traveled

Strangely enough, in my travels around South America I've never actually met another traveler who's been to Paraguay. I know these people exist, I'm just saying I've never came across one. In fact, when I mentioned that I was planning on going to Paraguay, the most common response I got was ... "Why??" Well, I guess I've just become a "Why Not?" kinda gal! So, for those who are geographically challenged, Paraguay is a landlocked country wrapped inside Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil. It's a strange combination of frenetic border towns, old...

Feb 24, 2005 - The Iguaçu Falls...Tres Fronteiras

Bom Gia, As from the title you will see that we´re in a border town between Brazil,Paraguay and Argentina. We´re staying in a modest hotel and it wasn´t until we saw that it was 42 degrees that we decided on the air conditioning!!!! It is slightly muggy here ,n´est pas. We went across the border into Puerto Iguacu in Argentina for the best view of the Falls yesterday. There are 275 falls in total ,shaped in a horseshoe and the highlight being the Garganta del Diablo (or the Devils Throat) Absolutely stunning!! It is amazing and the National...

Jan 22, 2005 - Argentina - Iguazu

We arrived in the morning and checked into our hostel which had a swimming pool ! Set off for the waterfalls at lunchtime and had a snack before taking the train from the welcome centre to the Gargantua del Diablo (Devils throat). The waterfalls are amazing. There is so much water cascading down and they carry on as far as the eye can see. There is also so much wildlife. We saw many different butterflies, birds, lizards, tucans and a couple of small alligators (caiman?). We took a boat trip back down the river and then headed back to the...
