Wednesday, March 9, 2011 I was on deck 6:15 am (sunrise) for Discovery’s passage through the canal. Some passengers already marked choice spots on Decks 8 and 9 to get the best views on this breezy morning. At 6:30 AM a small boat deposited the pilot who would steer Discovery through its passage. Red markers on the right and green markers on the left placed at about 200 yard intervals mark the path the ship will take. Mar 8, 2011 - Balboa/Panama City

Tuesday, March 8, 2011 Discovery docked at Forte Amador midday. We were tendered to Balboa at 2 40 pm in a light rain to board two vans for a tour of Balboa and Panama City. Theo was the guide on our van and gave a very good overview of our tour in the limited time we had. Balboa is a thoroughly American creation from the time US forces occupied the region until 1979 with the abolition of the Canal Zone.
