Aug 13, 2005 - Pacific Coast of Nicaragua and sand flies
Having arrived at the coast a day earlier we certainly were not too disappointed. After a two hour journey from Granada with a man and a van we drove to San Juan del Sur on the Pacific coast. This is apparently a getaway place for govt officials and rich Nicaraguans. We went past the town and drove precariously along a dirt track for a further 45 mins - how the van made it up and down the steep track and over the boulders we're not sure. Anyway the ride was well worth it as at the end of the track was a stunning beach with a further beach...

Jul 16, 2005 - Virgin on Parade
Wednesday 13.07.05 Thanks to the drubbing i had given my brain cells the night before, it was a long time before i ungracefully dismounted from my bunk bed and greeted the world. For Kris and Stephane, it was another story altogether - we found them in the TV room at 9.30am, still drinking from the night before, and looking a little worse for wear. When Kris and Stephane finally passed out (with eyes open), me, Ben and the two girls caught a taxi up to the Monkey Hut, a villa owned by the management of the Bearded Monkey. It sat on the...

Apr 18, 2005 - Zurueck in San Juan del Sur

Dec 28, 2004 - The Whitesand Christmas
Photos to come... Christmas at Amoure´s was full of surprises. The first of which was that Kieth and Erin (friends that Chuck, Steph and I met in San Juan del Sur) came for the weekend. It was great to meet up with them again. The second was bumping into Amoure (the owner of the hotelito) in San Juan del Sur, this allowed me to save some money on a cab and bring a rental surf board along. The Christmas Family at Amoure´s was made up of Kieth and Erin, Scott and Caitie (friends of Marc), and Francine (a friend of Scott and Caitie´s) and...

Dec 22, 2004 - Nicaragua: Playa Madeira
...The six of us actually travelled in one go from the Caribbean to the Pacific and arrived in Playa Madera the following day. A great beach and a great campsite (Camping Matilda) with a laid-back traveller's vibe. We celebrated our arrival with beer and Californian Sunshine. At last, sun, sand, water and some diamonds in the sky. Naturally, Xmas was spent on the beach too and we had a nice candlelit dinner of pasta cooked by Marcus and assisted, kind of, by Tui. At the campsite lived Dean from the USA. Dean had been on the campsite for a...

Jul 12, 2004 - San Juan Del SUr
What a gorgeous beach and town- I just couldn´t swim there!!!! The town folk wereusing dynamite to blow up a boat which had sunk in the bay, so I had to go to some beaches half an hour´s jolting, bone jarring ute ride away. Still It was gorgeous and the only restaurant within 20km was having a bbq for lunch. I don´t mind that at all. At least I can sit in my hammock and eat it while watching the waves roll in. THis place has the best fruit yet- the Mangoes and avocados are enormous- nearly as big as my head. I don´t have to eat anything...

Jun 29, 2004 - San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
After rushing through El Salvador and Hondruas, we needed a place to relax for a bit before moving on to Costa Rica. San Juan del Sur was the perfect place for a relaxing stop over. San Juan del Sur is a tranquil fishing village in southern Nicaragua, very close to the Costa Rican border. Our drive through Nicaragua was amazing and as we arrived, we were greeted by a beautiful sunset that illuminated the bay and its small collection of private yachts and fishing boats.
