Jun 11, 2009 - San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua
We have now been in San Juan del Sur,(SJDS) Nicaragua for three days. For the first two nights we couch surfed. What that means is we were hosted by a couple of Canadians who now live here. Cory and Elaine have hosted couch several couch surfers in Hope. Sandy and John are originally from Ontario, and have decided to make this their home. They recently opened a gym called Buena Vida Fitness Centre. They live in a gated community with 9 houses. Their rent is $650 a month and includes everything, elec, internet, cable etc , it also includes...

Feb 25, 2009 - Over the border.
The Argentinians left the day after my birthday which sucked because they were awesome. But all good things must come to an end, especially when those good things are hanging out with great people from a completely different part of the world. Justin and I stayed in Puerto Viejo for another night and then hit the road. We drove to San Jose, giving a lift to Nesta, a guy from the hostel who was flying out that day. We were running late so I still don't know whether he made his flight or not. Then we kept driving and decided to stop in a town...

I tried to upload 10, but whatever, 4 is good enough. I want to say 'Happy Birthday' to St. Paul and my cousin Hannah and my Pammy! I hope everyone is doing well. Please nobody else die while I´m gone. My grandfather and a friend have passed in less than a month and it really sucks being away from home and grieving. I feel sad sometimes and want to come home. Only 3 weeks left, tho. Miss you all, Kat

Jan 12, 2009 - Sailing Photos
I know I´m a few days behind, but here are the pics from Thursday. So, I´m in quite an interesting situation. I have no money. My card doesnt work in ATM machines because it´s credit and there´s no PIN number. So I think tomorrow I´m going to travel 40 minutes to the closest bank that would give me money. I heard about it at a bank here in San Juan Del Sur. A little stressful, I must say. Right now I´m traveling with Gabriel Brown, a nice young man from Costa Rica, and he´s kind enough to help me. And very chill, so that helps. So hopefully...

Sep 17, 2008 - San Juan Del Sur - PK goes surfing
September 14-17 San Juan Del Sur is Nicaragua´s most popular beach town. It lies on the Pacific ocean on the southwestern side of the country (near the CR border). It took about 6.5 hours by coach bus to arrive from San Jose, leaving at the wee hour of 7.30am, but this was an easier ride than usual as we had AC, movies and a direct route with stops only at the two borders - CR + Nicaragua. Plus, the bus made a special stop for 4 us on the highway and we quickly received a random act of kindness to jump in the bed of a truck right into San...

Jul 24, 2008 - San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
After a couple days of travel and making my way through the Honduras and Nicaragua countryside, I felt like getting back to the beach again. San Juan del Sur is a surfer's dream and a very chill spot in the Southwestern corner of Nicaragua. When I first arrived I ran into my friends Romain (from France) and Sara (from England). We had travelled together in Guatemala and spent a few days together in Honduras...now we meet again in Nicaragua! The beaches in San Juan del Sur were beautiful, the nightlife was lively, and the people were...

Jul 4, 2008 - San Juan Del Sur
Let me start by saying we never actually made it to Isla Omoteppe. I mean our intentions were there but we had made several mistakes that day that hindered us! The first was that we had drank way too much tequila the night before and were extremely hung over. The second was our choice in lunch which was fresh squeezed oj that was ridiculously sour, and homemade street burritos that had fresh white cheese, marinated onions, hot sauce, and queso fresca which is like sour cream. Now that we felt totally like throwing up we drove to the port...

Jun 1, 2008 - Nicaraguan border and San Juan del Sur
An extremely hot and crowded one and a half hour bus journey (during which we stood all the way) brought us to the Nicaraguan border, a disorganised and confusing crossing which took two hours! A further hour by bus (again we had to stand all the way crushed at the back) brought us to the hot, grimy bus terminal in Rivas. Hungry, hot and tired we took a collectivo (shared taxi) to the nearby coastal resort of San Juan del Sur rather than waiting two hours for the next bus. San Juan is the premier Nicaraguan beach resort, particularly...

May 15, 2008 - my last days in nicaragua
Yes indeed, i'm back in nicaragua and have been for about a month. I got the ultimate tour of the best beaches and the most beautiful properties that money can buy. However, there are some problems. Ortega, their president is an ass apparently who won't pass on savings on gas that Chavez offered him in their last meeting. This in turn has caused there to be a taxi/transportation strike for the last week and a half. Nicaraguans might not be the most logical people at times (i can't even begin to explain this one) but they sure are political....

Apr 3, 2008 - San Juan del Sur
Off to San Juan del Sur today, a wee beach town on the coast. Journey was fine, until I changed at Rivas and then I appeared to be on the first, experimental, 4x4 chicken bus. At least, we didn´t appear to be heading along any kind of road, instead just indiscriminately up and down various bits of forest/jungle/field. Or then again maybe that is the road. I jumped off the bus at the first sign of the sea, which now means that practically I have no idea where the bus station is to get out of here on Saturday. I´m sure I´ll figure it out...

Mar 20, 2008 - shortly, Rivas
Rivas might not be your touristy town but it sure is fun... i guess. we got here yesterday and chilled out in our luxury suite (cement walls, fan, private bathroom, tv and a queen and single bed). I didn´t really like the vibe in granada but i like this place a little more in that it´s not so claustrophobic. We do get harrassed left right and centre, but not to the degree of the big city. We still get hissed at and called but we just ignore it. Men: try and put yourselves in a girl´s shoes for one day. Every man that walks by here is...
