Jan 14, 2018 - Managua

It was lovely to sleep in a wee bit this morning as we are still a bit tired from the journey and our busy tour yesterday. Following breakfast we get a taxi to take us to the UCA (pronounced ooca) microbus 'station', which is more of a collection of stands on the side of the street. We are wanting to get the schedule to Leon and on to Las Penitas on the Pacific Ocean - our next stop. One minute later we are on our way to the Malecon or sea wall on Lake Managua. Our taxi driver was very chatty and was keen on driving us all the way to Las...

Jan 12, 2018 - Vancouver to Managua, Nicaragua

Friday January 12, 2018 Our 3:00am alarm comes very early and before we know it our taxi has dropped us off at the airport - it is now only 4:30am! Being so early, check-in and security was a breeze. Our flight on AeroMexico to Mexico City seemed to fly by, the flight wasn't full so we were able to move around and have a full row to ourselves. The flight to Managua was late leaving but we managed to make up some time and arrived around 7:00pm. We were the only flight on the Tarmac so immigration went quickly and the transfer service sent by...

Jun 20, 2015 - Back To Managua

Headed back to Managua today. Saw a very impressive group working with school children and adults in Managua. Many adults have not even finished grade school, so they are working to allow them to get a 6th grade certification, as well as vocational training in several areas. We got to meet part of Paola and Jaime's family today, which was a real treat. We had heard so much about them during our week here, that it was a joy to see them. Their mother was clearly so proud of them (and rightfully so). They were so loving and nurturing....

Jun 14, 2015 - We arrive!

We have made it safe and sound! This morning we left Houston and very nearly missed our flight to Managua due to problems with United Airlines International check-in chaos. For unknown reasons, our line took us over an hour to get through. When we got to the front, we found that people from adjacent lines were taking our available check-in kiosk and being the polite people we are, no one said anything. I very nearly grabbed the women with 4 family members who brazenly stepped ahead of Pam...however, putting her in a hammer lock and dragging...

Feb 24, 2015 - Summary of Trip

Tuesday Evening 2.24.15. Atlanta, GA. 9:00 pm . This entry is to try and recapture the events of the last several days as I was not able to keep up with journal over the last several days. . Saturday 2.21.15 . While the team finished their half day at Rios Proven, the medical team went to Santos Furia mainly for the men working there. Several had made it known that they would like to be seen by the male "Doctor". So while I took care of the guys with the help of Aida, Dr. Melba and Joyce took care of the others that came, mostly women and...

Feb 20, 2015 - Last Full Day

4:15 pm Today was the last full day of clinics for this week. We started on 2/17 in El Salto, San Rafael, then 2/18 in Dios Provee, Mataeares, yesterday the 19th in Panama, La Concha and today in Los Altos, Masaya. Pastor Roberto accompanied us to Los Altos in part to show the way as this visit is the first visit by Project Hope to the area. . Of the four church/clinic areas visisted Los Altos would have to be placed on the top of the list. The building was circular in nature, with red valances and curtain, and in floor baptismal that was...

Feb 19, 2015 - Mountain Highs

Thursday 4:45 The medical team returned to the mountains today, just to a different location from the other day. It, however was a place that we had visited last year. There is a difference in each of the locations, not just the location itself. It involves the spirit and attitude of the people involved. All are in poor communities with limited access to health care, little water and few jobs, if any. In fact the pastor of the church we were at today was fired from his paid position as there was not enough work. Think we saw about 40 people...

Feb 18, 2015 - A Day of Community

5:40 pm Today was a day of "Community". The area in which the homes are being build is Dios Provi - meaning God Provides and this is where I spent the day. We started out with a general meeting in which Eduardo called out Chuck Cook, Myself, Benny Holly, Terry McIntyre and Jordan to the front and presented us as "professional" singers from TV. Actually what he has us do was lead a song - La Abrea, to the laughter of all. Following this was a small group meeting which included a rooster that was tied up. . From the small groups everyone went...

Feb 17, 2015 - Day of Disappointment

Hope Central - 5:45 pm Today started out a little different than normal in that we did not go to the community first. Instead the women went on the Women's Ministry to the Ladies cancer center, the men went to the community to start working on the houses and I went with Dr. Melba up to the mountains. . The church is hard to describe, it is located up in the mountains above Managua, down a minor road - which was paved. The church itself sits on a tiny lot, is made of concrete with open spaces for doors/windows and a dirt floor which the...

Feb 16, 2015 - Project Hope - Base Camp - Day 1

2.16.2015 5 pm Hope Central, Cuidad Sandino, Managua, Nicaragua . I don’t know where today has gone. We arrived last night at 8:45 pm on Delta Flight 369. The plane was almost totally full. Fortunately because of traveling with Charlie we were in row 4 seats E&F at the bulkhead. It was great – a lot more leg room and even more room for Charlie to curl up beneath the seat ahead of us. The flight was short, just over 3 hours thanks to a tailwind. I think it is kind of funny that the travel time between Atlanta and Managua is the same as the...

Feb 23, 2014 - The Last Day of Ministry

11:15 pm Today was the last day with the full team. After breakfast I got on the bus to go the Soccer Tournament sponsored by Project Hope. Melody and Charlie stayed at the base to rest and to avoid being out in the sun for a prolonged period of time with an unknown number of people and or loose dogs. The soccer field was only about 10-15 minutes a way from camp. . Marvin introduced the tournament and then Eduardo and his group put on a drama showing a young girl surrounded by demons and being chased by Satan. It showed the demons placing...
