Isla Ometepe on the Lago de Nicaragua consists of two volcanoes, Concepción (1,610m) and Maderas (1,394m), joined by a land isthmus (Ometepe means "between two hills," in Nahuatl, the indigenous language of Nicaragua). The island is still pretty much off-the-beaten track territory. We stayed at "Finca Zopilote", an organic finca run by two Italians: Bruno, an older, chilled, hippie-type and Marco, an anarcho-punk in his early 30ies. Both have created a peaceful haven for travellers at a wonderful location overlooking this beautiful island....
