Mar 13, 2010 - Juigalpa to Leon via Managua

So it is to be another day of bussing but preferably better buses in this part of the country. After breakfast we take a cab to the bus depot then on to Leon via Managua. Leon is supposedly very beautiful and very hot. We are hoping for a hotel with pool. We will be about 20 minutes from the Pacific Ocean also so a swim in the Pacific is on the todo list. I have really enjoyed this hotel with its computers, good beds and air conditioning. Dawn So good bye to Juiagulpa and on to Leon. Juiagulpa was okay, quiet , nothng much to do there....

Mar 12, 2010 - Juigalpa

Well since it was such a long journey getting out of San Carlos. A 3 hr boat ride up from El Castillo and then a 5hr bus trip to go the 100km to Juigalpa. It is quite the road. So we decided to spend two nights in Juigalpa to wind down. And that is all you can do here as this is a quite farm town full of cowboys and maybe a lady of the night or two. Mar 11, 2010 - Juigulpa

Wow, what a relief, have just had a shower, and we have a air conditioned room . Billy , Cyn and the kids have gone out to eat, but I am sitting here finally on the internet. I am not hungry just hot and tired and have a stash of 2 pieces of excellent fried chicken and some nice baking in the room. I asked Billy to bring a gallon of drinking water and a coffee back if possible. I have been caffeine deprived in this country where so much of it is grown. Today started out early, between 0500 and 0600 when we got up and tried to shower while...

Jun 4, 2008 - Ometepe, Nicaragua

It started pouring this morning at like 4am and didn't stop until around 11am. Most of the group's hiking adventures were cancelled, but I hadn't planned on volcano hiking so my plans weren't affected. I ended up going to a park called Charco Verde with Sue from California. There was a large pond where the water was very green and it was the topic of many legends. It was not part of Lake Nicaragua, but was very close to it. The beaches on Lake Nicaragua in this protected area were beautiful black sand. Sue and I had a very nice lunch and...

Oct 3, 2004 - Joys of traveling

It´s not "refreshing" to travel in a country with no infrastructure as Lonely planet suggests, on the contrary it is a pain in the arse. Sitting on busses in my own sweat for 6 hours at a time has helped me develop a facinating rash on my buttocks, which I´m guessing is something like a nappy rash. Oh well only 3 more days till I get there.
