Apr 8, 2010 - Lane Cove and Motorbike Racing

When we went to Whangaroa Harbor over the three day weekend in February, we hiked into Lane Cove, took one look at the Department of Conservation hut there and knew we would be back. The “hut” is an old bach (beach cottage in kiwi) that was donated to DOC. It sleeps sixteen (although that would be really tight). Last weekend we were back with six of us – Mike and I and two other couples we’re friends with here. Sep 5, 2008 - Rawene to Ota Point near Whangaroa Harbour North Island 07 to 10 August 2008

Jeff We awoke with the dawn, (well our 7 o’clock phone alarm), to a beautiful morning. From our camp site on the hill we could see over the large inlet of Hokianga Harbour, and our route down from the camp site gave us views over another part of the of the harbour. After a nice leisurely breakfast we called at Rosemary’s motor home and then we set off for a beach walk. Matai Bay is situated on the Karikari Peninsula, on the western side of Doubtless Bay. It is a long narrow...

Sylvia’s Comments After a really interesting day at Waitangi were drove northwards to Ota Point, on the Whangaroa Harbour, where we were going to stay with a social work friend of mine. Rosemary came out to NZ for a nine week holiday, when she cycled around both of the islands. She must have liked the country as she returned the following year and then on her retirement she moved out here and married Stan over 10 years ago. We had been looking forward to meeting Stan but sadly he died whilst we were in Australia. Rosemary had given us...
