Hello all, Okain's Bay part of the Bank's Peninsual was our first jaw dropping landscape day in NZ. Made from a huge volcano with a big, beautiful lake in the middle, Akoroa, and spokes of land pointing out into the sea creating hidden cove after hidden cove. Truelly gorgeous. We camped one night there, Easter Saturday, with lots of Kiwis enjoyiong some bank holiday wholesome family fun. Feb 26, 2010 - Bays and Bays on Banks Peninsula
We packed up the van and headed to The Warehouse store - something akin to B&Q here in NZ. This is where all the 'backpackas' head to buy cheap camping gear etc. A couple of hours later, icebox, duvets and 3 baby cot mattresses (yes!) in hand we headed off to the Banks Peninsula which is only a short drive east of Christchurch. We were not really expecting much so we were overwhelmed within an hour or so as we spotted the first of many amazing harbours and inlets along the peninsula.
