Apr 27, 2011 - NZ Day 25, The One Ring
Woke up this morning after having been woken a few times during the night. Sometimes by a passing semi that would shake our cabin, other times by the winds that made us think we may wake up in a land where ruby red shoes would be needed to make our way back home! We were greeted by a large tree limb sitting on our front lawn next to the car. Made our way to a nearby hike next to the town of Takaka to see the Pupu Springs (these springs have a flow rate of appx. 14,000 liters of water per second, and have the privilege of being called the...

Dec 18, 2010 - New Zealand#2: North Island
On Monday the 13th of Dec 2010, Ciaran and I jumped in a rented 2003 Nissan Sunny from Omega Rentals and headed south. We rented the car for a total of 28 days, which came to a total of NZ$1500 (this included NZ$0 excess, fully comprehensive insurance and unlimited miles) and we stared off with a total of 38950 km on the clock. 1 Hour out of Auckland we got a flat tyre, typical! We headed down the east coast stopping at Waihi beach, lunch and food supplies (pasta, sauce and tinned fish!) at Taurango and we arrived at Cosy Cottage Campsite...

Apr 2, 2010 - Nelson - Lording it with Cars & Couture
The Nelson cathedral took 47 years to build! Even with all the project management and design time it doesn´t account for much. Oldest street in New Zealand is South Street - its quaint timber Victorian houses dating from 1862. Highlight of the visit to Nelson was the Museum of Wearable Art or WOW. And it is WOW. Amidst the glamourous classic cars, also enjoyed seeing a real life Delorean! Made in Belfast following the British government´s investment of 84million in the factory that closed within 21 months. Poor ol´ John Delorean´s timing...

Well that was annoying i just lost everything i wrote here in the library cos the computer just turned itself off without warning, then i couldn't get out as they locked the doors! You would think they would at least warn you they are gona lock you in overnight. Anyway... Beware of hoody disease. There i was plodding around a shop in Picton before our bus out of here. Heard the shop woman on the phone to her friend explaining that this young boy would have been a paraplegic by time he was 20years old if they hadn't found out when they did....

Apr 4, 2008 - Marahu to Nelson South Island 10 to 13 March 2008
Jeff Our task is to drive south east down the coast line on SH 60, eventually joining SH 6 and drive to Nelson. Today will be an easy quiet day and we will stay the night at a beach camp site at Mapoa. After a pleasant drive over hills, around bays, a coffee stop, (in our van) by the sea, we arrived at the small town of Mapoa and missed the road to the camp site. We were at a jetty where there was very interesting chic shops, studios, bars and cafes, so parked and had a look round. On deciding a posh kitchen shop would probably sell some...
