Not much of interest today - good journey from Wanaka to Franz Josef - I'd forgotten just how stunning the scenery is! Stopped at Thunder Creek Falls and at the salmon farm (there was actually some salmon food available today!). ... On arrival at Franz Josef we (met a lovely Irish lady on the bus) got checked in at the hostel and debated taking the shuttle up to the glacier but decided we would see what tomorrow holds first and boy were we glad we made that decision as the heavens opened and it poured and poured with rain for several hours. ...

We zijn dus nu weer in Franz Josef (idd genoemd naar de man van Sissi) en we hebben vandaag hetzelfde gedaan als ik in 2007. ... We zijn halve dag gaan rondklimmen op de Franz Josef gletsjer. ... We zijn overigend gisteravond al aangekomen in Franz Josef en toen hebben we alleen wat rondgelopen in het dorpje en lekker gegeten en gedronken. ... Voor de skiers is het wel leuk: hier in Franz Josef is eergisternacht ook 200 cm sneeuw gevallen boven op de gletsjer. ...
