Jan 31, 2012 - More mountains and lakes

A. Sorry no blogging for a few days - we've been in the bush! We took a side road up into the hills to some beautiful lakes with rainforest coming right down to their shores. Excellent walking country. Pete saw one trout, but it took one look at him ... Camped beside the lake in a fantastic deserted spot and enjoyed the peace and tranquility - see photos. P. From Waikeremoana lake we walked for an hour and a half 1000 ft uphill to a lovely mountain lake called Waikeirti at nealy 3000 ft high with nice sandy beach and no one else. And guess...

Oct 31, 2010 - Pre-Trip Log - Day Before Leaving

OMG, it's hard to believe that this time tomorrow we will be on our way to America! Quick update on what's happened since my previous entry... my car failed it's Warrant of Fitness - GASP! Actually, it wasn't that bad. Yes, it did fail but it could have been worse. It didn't pass because the lens on the right hand rear tail light was broken. We had bit of a panic attack to start with as, while it sounds like a relatively minor thing, the tail lenses for my old car are getting like hens teeth to find now. So, we took the car home and...

Oct 29, 2010 - Pre-Trip Log

It's Friday - three sleeps to go now until the start of our journey. I have taken today off work to add an extra day to the weekend before we leave and allow a bit more time to get the house in order, our bags packed, and any other incidentals along the way. Have spent the day so far tidying up outstanding items - taking Elsie's toys borrowed from the Toy Library back, and that sort of thing. Suddenly remembered, when we were up town, that the Warrant of Fitness on my car expired yesterday and that is the car we need to take to Wellington...

Catvention 2010

Apr 17, 2008 - Wellington to Castlepoint North Island 24th to 26th March 2008.

Sylvia’s Comments Before leaving our campsite this morning we booked a place for another 3 nights over the next weekend. We have to return to Wellington to collect our passports from the immigration department on Friday, and on Saturday night we are meeting up with friends from Australia (George and Pam) for a meal. Once on SH2 we drove up through Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt, two large city areas in themselves, on the outskirts of Wellington. We passed a lookout spot over two dams, one was low on water and the other was more like a puddle, a...

Oct 26, 2005 - Eketahuna 261005 (is)

Oct 16, 2004 - Dannevirke

After a pretty long and tiring drive (for Sam) we had almost arrived in Dannevirke to visit our friend. Around 20 minutes before the town, Sam with tired little eyes saw what he thought was a road sign talking to him....! I thought it best we pull over as I was worried my man was losing it, but after turning around we saw the sign did acutally have his name on it and he wasn't mad after all (see photo) :-)) After a very pleasant evening catching up with our pal and drinking beer we parked up in her garden and were up early in morning to...
