An early start to catch the Inter-Island ferry across to the South Island. Originally thinking that this would only be an hour or so it would in fact take 3hrs! The ferry was lovely though and had 5 levels for cars, a restaurant, pub, kids area and cinema. You could actually see that the ship was previously called the Pride of Cherbourg before being renamed! We have probably all spent some time on this crossing to France! With 3hrs to go we treated ourselves to a movie and watched Blood Diamond where Leonardo Di Caprio plays a South African...

Jul 5, 2005 - Kaikoura

You only go to Kaikora for one reason - to whale watch. OK, you can do other things there but the place is renowned for whale spotting. I was very excited to do this as I've never seen a whale. And we missed them migrating in Australia by less than a month. We arrived in Kaikora and went straight to the Information Center. We booked a tour with a company that has 95% record for whale encounters - and if you don't see them, you get an 80% refund. Not a bad deal, right? Right - and they had spaces available for that afternoon. Bonus....

Oct 9, 2004 - Flipper's disappearance :-(

Howdy guys! Well, I went to the dolphin encounter store today, ready for my swim with dolphins. I was v v v v v excited, cos I couldn't do it on Saturday, due to the weather, and one of my bus buddies (she came in late last night from Christchurch) went this morning, and had an absolutely fantastic time. So, me and Niamh (Nieve) went down, paid, got ourselves all decked out in the gear - thermal lining, wetsuit, gloves, hood, bootees and snorkel gear - We were looking beautiful! I'm sure they only do it for the laugh factor!! B-stards!!...
