Feb 8, 2020 - Curacao
We were up early and had breakfast in our room this morning. We were out on the dock ready for our tour. We were taken by taxi to the downtown area of Willemstad, the capital of Curacao. There we transferred to a tourist train. We were on a guided tour of Willemstad which took us round the town, showing us several parts of the town. The oldest part used to be residential housing for the wealthy, but as the government has designated them historic sites and limited their development while insisting they be maintained, man are now office...Jump to full entry
Apr 4, 2015 - Sun and more sun!
As usual the temperature has been around 30C every day. Went down to the local beach to meet the diving instructor that had been taking Gill and Karen out on their dives. Given that it was a holiday weekend it was a bit more crowded than usual. Photos will show that. Two more days then too a colder England!Jump to full entry
Mar 31, 2015 - Tour of the Island
March 31st Geoff had to drive Uli and Ton back to the airport at 1pm so I decided to go along for the ride. As Geoff had a number of errands to run afterwards this meant I got a guided tour of the Island as we went right down to the southern end, among other side trips! This included buying a bunch of floor tiles to be laid later this year. For the last part of the trip home Geoff sat in the back of the truck making sure the tiles did not fall over and break, he actually trusted me to drive!! Among other errands we visited a...Jump to full entry
Mar 30, 2015 - More sun and blue skies!
March 30th Found the photos I thought I had lost of the views from the restaurant and have uploaded them. Nothing to report for the weekend as I spent the whole weekend in the radio contest with the rest of the team here. Of course Gill and Karen spent both days diving and came back excited at all the creatures that they had seen underwater.Jump to full entry
Mar 26, 2015 - Another sunny day!
Another day with blue skies and a sunny 30c. Spent a few hours working the European and USA pileups on the radio. For dinner we went to a relatively new restaurant in an old Landhuis about 15 minutes away. Took some pictures of the view from our table. Gill is still doing her 3 dives a day with Karen. Only see them at night when they come home and collapse into bed! Unfortunately lost the pictures from the restaurant so here are a couple of the PJ2T antennas and a local beach which I walked to and from.Jump to full entry

Gill and Karen have been here since last week and are diving 3 times a day! Apart from that it is pretty laid back here.Jump to full entry

Jan 24, 2013 - Willemstad, Curacoa
Willemstad, established in 1634, is the capital of Curacao the former Dutch colony now an independent protectorate of Holland. It has a long history of being invaded by many countries but the Dutch influence can be seen in the buildings which also have verandas, porches and are painted in lovely pastel colours. After a bit of a walk from where we were docked we stopped at the Museum Kura Hulanda. The museum is actually the 19C slave quarters and gives a history of Africa and the slave trade with all of its brutality. It was well set up...Jump to full entry

Camp Curacao…. Where we thought we were Too Blessed To Be Stressed (that’s a sign on a party bus that drives around the island with tourists)”…. It was the first time EVER since we arrived on the island…. We were warned…….. NEVER leave anything valuable in your car! Becky dropped us off at the PTA’s Big Halloween Event at our school (open to the public – games, haunted house, disco, food/drink) where we had to work our 1-hour shift….so not wanting to take our purses into the hoopla, we tucked them under the car seats and Becky/Mike drove...Jump to full entry

ISLAND UPDATE October 23, 2011 Hellllllloooooo from the tropics… here’s the highlights… Oktoberfest Oktoberfest was last weekend downtown ….. we thought “WE” were going to be Oktoberfest… but “WE” were pleasantly surprised by 100’s of people, beer tents… brats(served on hamburger buns) …. a live band…. a rousing disco-style Chicken Song…. a yodeling contest (which ended with Yodel-off between an American ISC teacher, a Peruvian woman, and a Norwegian tourist… which I can proudly report was won by one of our own ISC teachers)….. the only...Jump to full entry
