Monday 26th April 2010 Weather:- Sunshine-18 degrees Volendam For a change from flowers and windmills today we took a trip to Volendam which is a popular tourist attraction in the Netherlands, well-known for its old fishing boats and the traditional clothing still worn by some residents (today maybe less than 50 elderly ladies). The women's costume of Volendam with its high, pointed bonnet, is one of the most recognizable of the Dutch traditional costumes, and is often featured on tourist postcards and posters. After a sleepless night due to the traffic right outside our pavement level window Ron was up before 8.00am, but the girls both slept slightly longer. We headed for breakfast at 10.00am and then booked the half-day bus tour out of the city for the afternoon. With that done, we decided to walk to the Anne Frank house museum. The walk took about 25 minutes, during which we enjoyed the sights of the old city – canals, narrow houses, and a myriad of cafes and restaurants. Aug 12, 2007 - Holland road trip- Volendam and Zanse Schans

last stops of the road trip. Volendam. hmmm. another small coastal town, but this one actually had things open. I guess the thousands of holidayers kinda help that. Known for its wooden houses that look kinda weird apparently (what do you all think?) We also stopped to check out the windmills at Zanse Schans (kinda near amsto). These were pretty neat but once again we got there too late and they were closed leaving us to admire the absolute beautification bright blue and Green windmills can do to the horizon!!
