Nov 7, 2013 - ABC Trek Day 3 - Ghorepani to Tadapani

An up and down day, literally! After a quick cup of tea, we set off in the dark at 4:30 am following a long line of headlamps up a series of steps, a 500m climb, to the top of Poon Hill. Our guide Lakpa led the way for our group, chanting "Om Mani Padme Hum" quietly to himself as he walked. A magical walk for most of the way despite all of the people. It has been a while since we have done a pre-breakfast hike and apparently it no longer works for Pam. Near the top she got dizzy and ended up curled up in the fetal position beside the trail...

Nov 2, 2013 - Jhihu

Another lovely sunrise over the mountains together with an early brrakfast & an 8 am start. Still feels really close to the mountains. We are making our way back down from the higher altitudes but we still seem to be going up as much as down as we cross the vallies. The trail is very rural & we pass by lots of little houses with their buffalo, goats, cows etc. There are also lots of beehives which are made from hollowed out logs which are hung on the sides of the houses. The stop tonight is in a small village called Jhihu. Our tea house...

NEPAL - 2013

Nov 1, 2013 - Poon Hill

Out at 5am today for one hour trek to top of Poon Hill to watch the sun rise over the Annapurna mountains. It is the highest point that we go to on our trek at 3,210mtrs. From here we start back down to Pokhara. Another steep climb, mainly steps, in the dark took us to the top with a hundred or so other trekkers. Pretty chilly with frost on the ground but the climb warmed us up and there was a stall at the top selling hot tea, coffee etc. The view was special as the snow capped peaks of the Annapurna's gradually lit up with the rising sun....

Mar 26, 2010 - Trek to Tadapani

POON HILL DAY! We got up at 4:30 a.m. and were hiking at 5 a.m. The goal is to get to Poon Hill (3193 m) for sunrise. Everyone is the area does it, so it was pretty crowded up there. It was spectacular! The haze clears up and the mornings are the best. We could see Dhaulugiri, Annapurna South, and Macchapuchare (Fish Tail) peaks. We headed back to the guest house for breakfast, packed up and left for the hike at 9 a.m. We actually climbed back up to almost the same elevation as Poon Hill, then on to Deurali for tea break, lunch at...
