Dec 10, 2011 - Trek Annapurnas 5e jour

Nov 11, 2010 - Annapurna Circuit Trek: Tag 7: Pisang - Manang

Apr 17, 2010 - Manang

Annapurna II looks part white and part golden as the early morning sun rays bounce off the mountain. Today, we plan to reach Manang, and there are two routes from Pisang – one higher and the second lower. The higher route through Ngawal is tougher by offer more scenic views. Over hot muesli for breakfast, we debated which route to take, but with our backpacks and wary of the effects of altitude, we decided to stick to the lower trail. Moving on from Pisang, after just a couple of ascents we hit a jeep trail that we would follow till we...

Apr 11, 2008 - Back to Manang, then back to the Thorung La

Hello again from Manang! re: the election The local results have the Maoist winning throughout the country and specifically here in Manang. ie: we are not in harms way given their support for tourism. re: the trek After a few days at high altitude (ie 4600 m at Thorang Phedi) we have come back down to Manang area to care for a sick tummy (Nick), a cold (Kyla) and to avoid some snowy and cold weather above. We will be staying in our favorite guesthouse, the New Yak in Braka, Manang for the next few days while taking in some day hikes, some...

Apr 6, 2008 - Manang to Thorang Phedi (days 10 - 19)

We are now on day 8 of the trek, getting acclimatized to the altitude here (3500meters)in Manang, in the last place with (expensive) internet access for about 7 to 10 days (based on our pace). We're doing fantastic, and we haven't seen any of the activities that are making the news back home - we are so far away from Kathmandu in the mountains, and will not return until after the elections. When we next have internet access, we'll find out what's going on and make decicions based on that. We aren't taking any public transportation or...

Feb 27, 2008 - On top of the world!!!

Well, we've certainly perfected our tour d'Bangkok extraordinaire!!! Ten minutes after saying goodbye to Dan, we were welcoming Elspeth (Mer's mom) and Margaret (Mer's mom's friend) to Asia! Two days later, we touched down in Kathmandu, Nepal, and were gearing ourselves up for a two week trek in the Himalayan Mountains!!! Not all of you may know that as an eighteen year old, Meredith spent nearly four months in Nepal teaching in a small village school and exploring this incredible country. Since her visit, Meredith has always wanted to...
