Well, here we are sitting in Zhangmu, at the foot of the Himalaya just inside the Chinese border. This little town is perched along a series of switchbacks high above the Nepalese border which appears as a tiny dot way down the steep walled valley. Tonight we are at 2300 m, having dropped from our last high pass earlier today at 5120 m, Long-La, on the way out of Tibet. We'll be back in Kathmandu in no time, way back down to 1300 m. Apr 22, 2006 - Day One to Nyalam

So 22 April Day One - Kathmandu to cross The Friendship Bridge at the border town of Kodari and on to Nyalam Alt: 3750m We sneaked out of our hotel at 2:30am and I got my first bit of excitement as I turned a corner to come face to face with a big, black and white cow. I thought I was dreaming as it looked just like a Fonterra Cow. Has one gone missing? The food doesn't look so good here. Cows are sacred here in this Hindu country so I have had to give way to them many times but I had never seen with these colourings. They are handy for...
