Mar 24, 2019 - Kathmandu to Chitwan

Early departure for our drive to Chitwan. Speaking of time, should point out the time zone for Nepal is +5.45. Not sure why they didn't go with +6 but is a litle confusing. Distance to cover today is 175km, time taken 5.5 hrs. The "lodge" we are staying at is an all inclusive package so we had lunch there when we arrived. In the afternoon we went for a jungle walk with a local naturalist, spotted lots of birds and a few crocodiles along the river banks.ended the walk with a quiet drink beside the river watching the sunset. In the evening...

Mar 15, 2019 - Into the Jungle

Friday, March 15 Yesterday we travelled by bus from Pokhara to Chitwan. The journey was not as long as the other day but just as exciting. Another crazy driver who just had to pass everything. Luckily there was not as much traffic as a national strike of some kind kept most of the large trucks off the road. The area is famous for its National Park and wildlife. It's much hotter down here in the lowlands (in the high 30's today). In the afternoon we did a walking tour through the local village and then a visit to the elephant breeding...

Oct 21, 2018 - Nepal Nirvana - October 21, 2018 Chitwan National Park

So sweet, I had a long sleep in today (7:45am). So nice to have a day to relax and not bolt out at the wee hours of the morning. Seems that everyone is enjoying a leisure day and we all meet at breakfast around the same time. Most of us relax on the deck with our coffee until it is time for the Elephant Feeding & Bathing - so excited for this. We walk a short distance on the river and there are the four female elephant that belong to the Barahi Jungle Lodge, along with their mahouts (trainers). Two of them are 50 years old, one is a...

Oct 20, 2018 - Nepal Nirvana - October 20, 2018 Chitwan National Park

Wake up call for 6:00am and down at the river by 6:30am for our jeep Safari. Gobinda and Jitu, our naturalist guides, help us in to the boat to cross the short distance to Chitwan National Park. The air was foggy and cool and gave a mysterious feel to the day. As we were docking on the opposite bank, Jitu pointed to two large footprints that belong to a Rhino that was drinking water from the river. We saw several other fresh tracks and dung so it hadn't been too long ago. Not far away we also saw huge elephant tracks. We climbed into two...

Oct 19, 2018 - Nepal Nirvana - October 19, 2018 Lumbini to Chitwan National Park

Breakfast completed, bags packed and we are off at 8:15am for Chitwan National Park. Today is the most important day of Dashain, blessings are given and tikka applied to the foreheads of those blessed. People are with their families and we see several gatherings along the roadside. The traffic is fairly light this early and the road is relatively straight and flat so we clip along at a good speed. I think Prem is anxious to see his family as he isn't wasting any time! Those in the front say he wasn't his usual cautious self. We stop for a...
