Oct 12, 2018 - Nepal Nirvana - Oct 12, 2018 Bandipur

Today is a long drive so we have arranged to leave Kathmandu at 8am. All of us seem to be awake early so it's good to get an early start. We get away on time and thankfully the traffic is reasonable until we reach a point where one of the connecting streets lead to the highway to India. Here there is a huge traffic snarl and we literally stand still for about 20 minutes. The group entertain themselves watching a several workers discuss heaven knows what regarding one of their power poles. Finally we make our way down from 1400m to about...

Nov 4, 2013 - Bandipur

We said goodbye to Kathmandu and set off in our private jeep (complete with driver) for the 140km drive to Bandipur. Once we got out of Kathmandu, the scenery was beautiful but the roads were terrible! During the trip we read in our guidebook that Nepal is still one of the 10 poorest countries in the world and we could see that as we drove through towns and villages along the way. Bandipur is just off the main highway between Kathmandu and Pokhara and Annemieke had read that it was a beautiful, quiet town so we decided to stay for a night...

Mar 19, 2009 - Bandipur and traffic jams

Just returned from a 3 day trip to Bandipur, a town about 100 KM west of Kathmandu, noted for being a peaceful, well-preserved Newari town with loads of good hiking nearby. Unfortunately, what I'll remember most about the trip isn't the town, but the rather hellish bus ride to get there and back. There are a number of "tourist buses" that make this trip on the long, windy road that snakes through the mountains and along a steep ravine. I had made reservations with "Loyal Travels" for no other reason than they were the only service I could...

Nov 18, 2007 - NEPAL: Bandipur

Bandipur is a small hill-top village in a perfect setting, overlooking the Himalayas. We only stopped for the night. It was a gorgeous little stop though. There were lots of impressive walks in the area but we decided just to be lazy and enjoy the scenery from the village!!!!! With lots of trekking on the agenda we were saving our energy.

May 21, 2007 - Bandipur: For now, a peaceful paradise (Laura & Matt)

Laura: The bus deposits us on the side of the road and I watch as two fellow travellers look in their guidebook frantically wondering why we are disembarking here. I have wondered the same thing before: just what am I missing by not stopping here? What do those travellers know that I don't? This time it really is their loss; they really should break up their trip from Kathmandu to Pokhara and ride up the hill with us. We find one of the waiting jeeps and learn that for 300rs we can have the jeep leave right away, or pay 20rs each and wait...
