Aug 10, 2016 - Elephant Human Relations Aid in Damaraland

On August 1st we started our Elephant-Human Relations (EHRA) family volunteer experience. EHRA is a non-profit organization that helps minimize the conflict between the Damara desert elephants and humans. They do this mainly by helping farmers build strong fences around their livestock's water holes and working with communities helping them co-exist with elephants. Jan 15, 2012 - Spitzkoppe

After departing Swakopmund we made our way inland on our shortest drive to date--only about three hours. We headed for the "Spitzkoppe," a dramatic mountain near the town of Uis and the site of that night's bush camp. We arrived by 1:30 pm and I wondered what we would do the balance of the day since we were in such a remote area. It proved, however, to be a nice change of pace from the constant long hauls in the truck as well as from the relative luxury of Swakopmund.
