We are now in Namibia at a lovely campsite on the banks of the Orange River. This morning's canoe trip was very relaxing and peaceful, with a few sections of (small) rapids just to make sure we were awake. The whole trip was around 3 hours and we saw lots of bird life on the water and in the surrounding trees. Rain was threatening but kept away the whole time, though the wind started to get up which made paddling very tiring. Now it's back on the truck for a 200km drive to the Fish River Canyon.

Dec 11, 2008 - Kayaking the Border

Orange River We left the Fish River Canyon campsite early en route to the Al Ais Hot Springs at the south end of the national park. We were all looking forward to enjoying the springs on the edge of the canyon, but we were turned back at the gates. Unfortunately, the hot springs were closed for renovations. A little disappointed, we continued the drive south to the South African Border. We drove out of the desert, leaving the sand dunes behind, towards the hills, farms and irrigated fruit tree orchards of southern Namibian border. We...

Mar 28, 2007 - Swakopmund to Orange River.

28th March - It was back on the truck today and we were driving down to the massive red sand dunes of Sossusvlei. Not long out of Swakopmund we hit a very thick fog in the middle of the desert. The temperature plummeted and everyone on the truck had to rug up. It was an odd sight to see everyone in there beanies, jackets and sleeping bags trying to keep warm. We eventually got out of the fog and it was a beautiful clear day - it didn't take long for everybody to warm up. We arrived at Sossusvlei at lunch in the blistering heat. While Jez...
