Aug 16, 2011 - Sesriem - Dunes - Solitaire

Prachtige sterrenhemel ‘s...

Sep 16, 2010 - Namib Wueste Naukluft National Park

Vertieft in Ihrem...

Mar 3, 2009 - Sossusvlei - the Namib Dessert

Rikke and I finally got our wish of renting a car. We tried as much as possible to get a discount at the car rental place but they would not give us one. BUT, 10 minutes after leaving the place they called us and said the car they gave us was sold to someone so we had to return it. Needless to say, we were not going to return the vehicle without a discount, so in the end we got one. Made it to Soussosvlei desert later that day, home to the oldest desert and the largest sand dunes in the world. Very difficult to describe it. I speak only...

Dec 8, 2006 - Bush Camp - 'Dune summit day'

Well had a complete shocker of a sleep last night. Think I managed about 3hrs. Seem to have this problem when I need to get up in the morning. Packed the tent away and after the truck suffering a flat battery, only on Overland Club can you get a flat battery 1hr before you have to climb a sand dune for sunrise. Sort of misses the point really. Anyway Annabel jumped it off the 'house batteries' and we were rolling. 45mins later we arrived at 'Dune 45'. Out we jumped and headed for the summit. 15-20mins later Ed and I made it to the top. We...

Aug 21, 2005 - Sesriem - Sossouvlei

Had a ook and walk down some canyon I can't remember the name of. Was good to get some exercise and it was a quiet and serene place. Went to Dune 45, climbed to the top for sunrise - although I didn't quite make it in time. Angela and I ran down the side like a couple of idiots! Then went for a walk into Sossouvlei and saw the dried trees etc. Hell of a walk - 5km in sand which is much like walking in snow. Good exercise tho'! Back to the campsite and then had a few afternoon beverages before going to see the sunset. Managed to get Kay to...

Jun 17, 2005 - Dunes......

Ever fancied climbing up a very large pile of sand before sunrise on a freezing cold morning? If so Soussesvlei is for you...... Beleive me its hard work, especially being the first ones to climb.Looks easy to climb all the way to the top but by about half way I was rejecting a lung.Stupidly I took over the pacemaker role which involved making the path up the virgin sand.By now, with all the experience I've had in being stupid I should have seen this as being such from a mile away.Unfortunately for me and my poor lung it wasn't to be.It's...
