Technically, the temperature should cool as we travel south from the equator but not today. It is 40 degrees by ten-thirty. The C 27 gravel road along this scenic drive grates on us, our camper and it's tires. One other road was recommended but we are not allowed to travel "D" roads in the motor home so avoided D707.  Many stops were made for photos. Vistas, the layers of colored rock in the mountains, and wildlife keep this road interesting. Sable, ostrich, social weaver birds in a gigantic nest, springbok, zebra, a jackal, cows, goats,...

May 2, 2010 - route dag 5 Fish River Canyon - Aus

Fish River Canyon - Aus (time 5,5 hours, distance 340 km) The sunrise is beautiful in the canyon. It's a half an hour drive to the looking point, so we will get an early start. Fish River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world, where the Grand Canyon in the US is the largest. After our visit in Fish River Canyon, we continue our trip to Aus, where we will spend two nights to visit the surroundings. Dec 8, 2008 - In and Aus

We woke this morning at the more civilized hour of 7:00 am and were on the road by 8:00. Today, we were heading to Aus. Before arriving in Aus, we made a couple stops. First, a little before noon, we stopped in a quaint small town just off the road with a grocery. Unfortunately, it being a Sunday, the grocery store was closed, but there was a small German-run Bed & Breakfast nearby with a restaurant serving lunch. The menu was limited – we had to choose between cheese & ham sandwiches or bratwurst – but it was a nice garden and a nice...
