So, on Tuesday, 1/6, it was a taxi to Don Muang airport The regional Bangkok flights go from a different airport than the long-haul international flights (BKK). The approach into Rangoon was really neat, as there are golden temples visible from both sides of the plane. Aug 13, 2007 - Burma Yangoon
The flight to Yangon Burma was a quick on 50 minutes. Once we arrived in Burma Brian and I had no idea what to expect. We were pleased to find lush tropical vegetation similar to a Cuban landscape. The landscape was not the only thing that bore resemblance to Cuba, the once grand British Colonial architecture was crumbling under the weight of the oppressive government. Caught an early flight to Yangon and we were greated with rain, I guess seeing as it is monsoon weather we should not have been surprised. We managed to get a taxi into town. Yangon like most big cities is not the nicest of places and because we were staying in the old part of town it was fairly run down. After being in the country for less than 3 hours we were already breaking the law!! We exchanged our money on the black market and I have to say it was all very dodgy, however, we got a very good exchange rate of $1 = 1,000 Kyat as apposed...
