Dec 8, 2012 - day of Relaxaztion at Massinga Beach lodge

Saturday, December 8th - day of Relaxaztion at Massinga Beach lodge Today was a day of pure relaxation...sleeping a little late, okay we still woke up at 6am, and a nice coffee on our deck. After breaks we hiked down the cliffs to the pool/lunch area to enjoy the pool and the beach. The beach was desolate with an occasional local fishing off the beach just using a solo line and no fishing rod. Large boulders dotted the beach and the waves were even higher today than yesterday reaching about 5-8ft...Marks dream come true. Although there was...

Dec 7, 2012 - Vilanculos to Massinga

Friday, December 7th - Vilanculos to Massinga It was the last morning to soak it all in prior to leaving. It was a very cloudy morning with storms out over the islands. We watched the storms rolling out to sea but never actually made it to Vilanculos. I will miss my beautiful multiple blue hues of the ocean water balcony views and my favorite balcony swing. Our driver arrived in the morning to drive us from Vilanculos to Inhabane ( Massinga Lodge). initially I had a LAM flight booked for that leg but the flight was canceled and the airline...

Aug 1, 2012 - Day 37 Ponto Do Ouro to Maputo - Blue Sky

The weather had cleared up a bit so we had booked a dolphin tour in the morning – we all got up at 6.30 to be there for 7 AM – We got our instructions and off we went in the rocky sea up the coast about 20 km and we saw nothing – we were told that there was a nice reef and jumped in the water to see nothing and then headed back – Not much of an excursion other than a bumpy boat ride. We packed up at the house and headed for the ferry at Catembe across from Maputo – about 40 KM’s in deep sand was some kind of an experience, but we managed...

Friends for life for sure - more abou them later). Mel needed to come so she could experience what we were going to experience for future guests staying at the resort. We take the back road....

Jul 10, 2012 - Fishing and smiles bring two worlds together

7/10 After  an incredible nights sleep (hearing the roar if the ocean all night) I wake excitedly to see my surroundings in day light with no rain. I move my mosquito net to the side, and shift the curtains open to see the most beautiful site ever. It's absolutely heaven on earth.  I'm so at peace.  Once the electric is back on at 7am, I make a fresh press coffee and on my deck. A part of me feels guilty of how poor this country is and how beautiful and rich my 'house' is.  I struggle at bit as I have no 'needs' for...

Jul 9, 2012 - Mozambique - is heaven on earth

7/9 On the move again! Woke up in J'burg at 5am after not sleeping much.  My overpriced hotel's air conditioning was broken. I've stayed there a couple times before. Its in a place of town that i really like. I was awake at 3 am and could not fall back to sleep.  I ask for a taxi to the airport. I'm heading to Maputo, Mozambique. there are 100% male commuters on my flight. Apparently there is a lot of booming business in Maputo.  The trip was 1 hour. We land in Maputo and  I immediately head for the Visa line. Me and 5 others are there....

Jun 13, 2012 - Maputo

The next morning we packed our stuff, said goodbye to Villar, Denis and Sara, the hostel manager and started our relaxed tour in direction Maputo, stopping at random village markets, trying to spot Baobab and Trumpet Trees. It was a very relaxing ride and we only got pulled over once and Evelyn managed with her charm that we only got a warning. We arrived at Maputo in the early evening where they dropped me off at a small hostel called Base. After having dinner with a Brazilian guy, I went to watch football with an English and a French...

Oct 21, 2010 - Maputo

Mar 22, 2010 - Maputo

Monday, March 22, 2010 Maputo, Mozambique Our first stop today was at the Railroad Station, considered to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the world, built by Gustave Eiffel, one and the same as the Eiffel Tower, and celebrating its 100 hundredth anniversary. Inside were two engines from the very first runs to two different cities. Next we went to a fortress which guarded the city and was at the center of development. Inside the fort were canons, historical friezes, statues of heroes; and a short distance outside the fort a statue...

Sep 2, 2009 - Chillaxing in Mozambique

After spending the last few months on the road, we decided to take some time out and go to Mozambique. Our aim was to relax and learn to dive and we had enrolled in the Open Water five course. We were going to be staying at a friend's place at Ponta D'Oura which was a small place on the border of Mozambique and South Africa. It was a tough drive to get there through some horrible roads. But when we arrived it was bliss. The temperature was around 20 degrees so warm in the sun but cool in the shade – just perfect for working on the tan. We...

Jun 18, 2008 - Dinner with Kilara in Maputo!

We got up early today and left Barra at 7am to head back to Maputo for the night. It was a fairly long drive. We got to Fatima’s backpackers about 3pm. It’s a pretty crazy place… I was in my room getting ready to go out. There was another girl in there who wasn’t part of our group but spookily recognized me…turns out she had been at the same hostel as me in Cape Town back in January… I met up with Kilara at about 5.30pm as she is living in Maputo for two years. Was lovely to see her! We went for an ice-cream and a drink and then went and...
