Aug 1, 2012 - Day 39 Xai Xai to Inhambane - Barra Beach Lodge

We left Xai Xai at 9 Am drove through flat landscape for about 260 to arrive at Barra Beach Resort – the first place we have been that reassembles Kenya a bit – Yes here we have the hungry sales men on the beach – all other places we have ben had been our own – but that’s over we are now sharing. We are staying in a shack type thing on the beach – not fantastic but we will survive for the night. By Thomas

Sep 20, 2008 - Barra, Mozambique

Hello all, So we are nearing the end and are getting quite sad. We are now in Mozambique and it is beautiful. It is definately different from S. Africa, but it is very nice. Today we went on a catamaran cruise to some remote sand islands. There was nothing there just sand. They weren't very big, but they had really cool sea shells. It was really warm today and we each have a few red spots, but we did use sunscreen. Tomorrow we are going quading to see the city and market and then we are going for a massage in the afternoon. Then on Monday...

May 18, 2008 - Inhambane

Dennis at Pensao told us that he could get us a bus to Maputo for 300 meticais and they would pick us up right in front of his place at 5 am. Since the one leaving from Tofo would have cost us an additional 150 ea ($6 US) we decided to go back to Inhambane, plus Bon wanted to go on internet to try and communicate w/ Tiff re rental stuff. Unfortunately we forgot it was a Sunday and just about everything is closed!

May 12, 2008 - Inhambane

Left Pink Papaya in company of Bendito(guard) at 3 for bus 6 blocks away. When we arrived no one was awake. We sat down and waited while others(3) arrived. About 4 the driver told us he was not going today!!! The others said they heard there was another bus going somewhere down the street. We followed and lo and behold not a 22 passenger bus but a full sized bus, aircon, express! Loading/loaded...we paid $40 US each( $4 more than the minivan) got seats second from the back row, but at least we were on and it left right at 4:30 just when...

I can't believe that after all this time (like, my entire life) i have finally done it...done my open ocean course and now advanced. I LOVE IT!!! IN FACT, I'M ADDICTED (AS...

Hello everyone, hope you all had an excellent crimbo. I gladly made it to Tofo in time after a hectic journey on the local minibuses from swaziland stopping in Maputo for a night. But this place is definately worth it. Its a small little place on the coast with a few bars and hostel along the beach. Spent xmas day in a hammock watching the waves and eating fresh shrimps although missed everyone back home a lot. Been surfing a bit and got myself an excellent job in a beach bar called Dino's which goes crazy and never get to bed befor 7 at...

Sep 23, 2005 - Mosambik 1.-12.9.2005

Mosambik ei alunperin kuulunut ollenkaan matkasuunnitelmiimme. Kiinnostuksemme herasi vasta Argentiinassa, kun luimme Buenos Aires Times -lehden matkailuliitetta, jossa kerrottiin Mosambikin 2500 kilometrin pituisesta rantaviivasta ja Tofon sukellusparatiisista. Mielemme alkoi kummasti hinkua kunnon rantalomalle ja paatimme poiketa Mosambikiin. Rantaparatiisiin oli mentava paakaupunki Maputon kautta, jossa vihdoin tunsin saapuneeni "oikeaan" Afrikkaan. Tai pitaisi kai sanoa mielikuvieni Afrikkaan. Tukahduttavan kuumaa ja kuivaa. Hajuja ja...

Aug 2, 2005 - Mozambique, Diving and credit card fraud!

Hello lovely people, Don't know how but in the last month we appear to have been in 5 different countries which surely should be some kind of record! After we arrived back in Jo'burg we met up with some friends (not all still friends although we'll come to that later!!!!) and after a few days of organisation we hitched a lift on the back of a bakkie (open pick up truck) through Maputo (capital of Moz) and then onto Tofo - via a place called Marloth where we could see over the fence into Kruger National park (we truely are...

Jul 14, 2005 - Mozambique

After stopping to visit family in Pretoria, it was time to hit the road again. South Africa is pretty dam cold in July so we decided to head a little north to Mozambique. We went to Barra beach just outside of Inhambane. Overall, we were a little disappointed with our experience in Mozambique. It's one thing to be around people that aren't very nice, but we both felt like we were completely unwelcomed. Maybe our expectations were too high from Turkey, but it was brutal. The place we found was fantastic and we had the beach practically to...

May 30, 2005 - Inhambane and Tofo Beach, Mozambique

Tofu Beach - Mozambique 'Where oh where can Bear be?' This is what heppens when someone travelling for a few weeks does with 1/2 a day on their hands. They steal a plush toy from a fellow traveller, writes some randsom notes and prolonmgs the experience into the night. Ah well we had fun and so did Bear - check out the pics. Again, it was lovely to stay near the beach, eat seafood and chill for a few nights. Staying in a dorm with 3 boys is perhaps not as lovely, let's just say the air in there was not as fresh as outside..... Tofu beach is...
