Hello all, we have established an internet connection, se we can update the website and see our dear (grand)children, yippie ! We're in Chefchaouen, and after our sunday sermon of Joseph Prince, we visited the city, the souk, the market and all the nice little shops, we had our Moroccan tea and lunch and tonight we'll have our first diner : tahine with meat ;-) On our way to Chefchaouen we're filmed by an television crew and had to pass an area which would be visited by the Moroccan king, that resulted in an police escort to the campingplace ;-), due to all kinds of security messures, very funny. ... Feb 26, 2010 - Last three days - Essaouira
The remaining six of us travelled on the local bus to Essaouira, a very picturesque, Portuguese fishing village on the Atlantic coast. ... We simply relaxed and enjoyed the leisurely pace of life in attractive Essaouira, with its whitewashed houses with bright blue shutters. ... 0 am, hoping for a good sunrise, and although there was some colour in the sky, it wasn't in a position that would give me any pictures worth getting out of bed for, but the early morning walk was lovely and watching the fishing harbour coming to life made it well worth while - and I did go back to bed for an hour afterwards! We arrived in Essaouira on Wednesday at lunchtime and left in early evening of Friday for the three hour bus ride back to Marrakesh. ...

Feb 22, 2010 - The Last of the Mountains and into Marrakesh
As on previous days, it was like traveling back in time! Again, it was well into the afternoon before we checked into our hotel, which was on the outskirts of Marrakesh. ... It felt warmer now that we were at a lower altitude and also further south and I was able to discard a couple of layers before we headed off into Marrakesh’s famous Medina. ... This was the Marrakesh we have all read about. ...

So this is the big day, Ivan! The day I get to photograph sand! (Note for everyone else: Since I walk on a beach almost every day of my life, Ivan has been teasing me, since I booked this trip, about going all the way to Morocco to take photographs of sand) Last night I had my first taste of the really cold mountain weather. So this is the big day, Ivan! Feb 18, 2010 - Take me to the Kasbah
Our stop for the night was in Midelt where we stayed in our first Kasbah – actually a purpose-built hostelry in the style of an old Kasbah. ... Midelt is a great place for an overnight stop! But it is cold! The first thing we did on arrival was warm up with the national drink, mint tea. ... Anyway, on this occasion, in Midelt, it was very welcome. ...

According to the tour schedule, today was free day, so yesterday evening we met in the hotel lobby to discuss options. The other four people wanted to visit a thermal spa in the afternoon which was a fairly easy detour, through lovely scenery, from the main road back to Fes. ... I wasn’t really interested in that but the spa building was overlooked by a hillside village of lovely yellow stucco buildings clinging to the steep slopes.According to the tour schedule, today was free day, so yesterday evening we met in the hotel lobby to discuss options.
