Sep 6, 2010 - High Atlas-Part Deux

Today we were up at 6am, breakfast in the main room at 6:30a, and off at 7am to begin our full day trek with Houssein (Issam was not going with us today). Today's plan was to climb back out of Aremd (approx 6330'), then up out of the Ait Mizane Valley, over one saddle (read:very high crossing point at top of mountain ridge), then descend into Imnane Valley, walk along the valley floor, have a picnic lunch (which would be carried by Katrina, Houssein's BEAUTIFUL mule). Sep 5, 2010 - High Atlas-Part One

We stayed out pretty late Saturday night, walked back to the hotel by midnight and we took a couple Special Flags (Moroccan beer) up to the room. The only place during Ramadan you can get alcohol is in a hotel, possibly tourist restaurants, but we didn't see that once. After the 110 degree day and the 120 degree hour spent at the internet cafe (okay, it probably wasn't 120 but it sure felt it), the walk in the cool air and the beer hit the spot. But that meant we didn't pack for our next couple of days and get to bed until 1:45a. We were up...

Jul 8, 2008 - Aremd

A long drive today across the High Atlas Mountains, via the Tizi'n Ticha pass, the highest in Morocco at 2260m. We travelled to the end of the road and entered the Toubkal region. From here there was a 45 minute walk (or mule ride) up the mountain to the village of Armend. It was nice and cool up here and we stayed in another guest house run by a local family.
