Oct 6, 2012 - Day 4 - Montenegro
Had a leisurely breakfast in, then walked up 89 steps to meet our guide extraordinaire, Zoran for the day trip to Montenegro. It is approximately a one and one-half to two hour ride to Montenegro. Croatia is very narrow (hugs the coast) to the south before arriving at the border of Montenegro....another stamp on the passport! Took a short ferry ride across Kotor Bay to Kotor, a beautiful walled city at the foot of the mountains. The wall around Kotor took 900 years to build, which in our opinion they did not need. No one would have been...

Sep 24, 2012 - Relaxing in Kotor
Yesterday, we started out from Dubrovnikand I realized that I did not have my passport but fortunately we were only about 30 minutes outside of town. So we drove back to our hotel and it was sitting on the reception desk. Whew one possible horrible emergency avoided. So we got back into the car and began following the instructions on the GPS again and found our way safely across the border into Montenegro. The road was curvy and so beautiful. So glad Rog doesn't mind driving. The road curved around the Bay of Kotor and soon we entered the...

Sep 19, 2012 - The road to Kotor
The road to Kotor We walked down the steep streets and hills to sealevel and picked up our car for our trip to Montenegro and it's bay of Kotor. The car is a very low end FIAT, kinda like driving a gocart. We do not need a car for high speed, just one that will handle the curves and a few hills of the coast. Montenegro is also a former member of Yugoslavia that did not gain it's independence from Serbia until 2006. Therefore, it is where Croatia was 10-15 years ago. Although, other Europeans are buying cheap " beachfront" property here....

Sep 13, 2012 - Kotor is home to much weather:-)
Yesterday, checking into our rooms in this small hotel started a new level of comfort. These rooms each have balcony we tiny ocean view, are large and have our first bathtub of our trip so I can soak away some aches and pains. We were booked on a boat tour in the afternoon with a swimming stop. Oh, the cheers of delight! The bay of motor is very protected. It is easy to see why it has been historically important for centuries. It was bobed by the U.S. in WWII and some damage is still evident. The weather was perfect and we were all so ready...

Sep 12, 2012 - what a difference a day makes
Last night we stayed in the segregated dorm rooms at an Orthodox monastery in Ostrog, Montenegro, so no wi fi. We left Sarajevo very early yesterday morning to catch the bus to Ostrog. Taking trains and buses in these European countries really is an eye opener. They are packed with local people going about their daily business, standing room only, wit luggage crowding the aisles and lots of loud conversations of which we don't understand a word. Thankfully our tour leader arranges things so that we arrive in time to get seats. The roads...

Jul 8, 2012 - Kotor
MONTENEGRO: We were going to take a bus from Shkodra into Montenegro, however, the hotel taxi man agreed he would take us to Ulcinj, Montenegro for the same price as the bus. Once we were in his taxi he offered to take us all the way to Bar for another 2.3E which was fair. We then took a bus to Kotor where we stayed for 5 days. What beautiful scenery along the way! Rugged mountains, deep blue water and pretty buildings with a few boats in view. Lovely! In Kotor, we found a nice little apt very near the Old Town and so were able to cook our...

Jun 16, 2012 - No the oldest bunny on the bus
Saturday 16 June We had breakfast on the gorgeous terrace at Limestone House resplendent with fabulous hydrangea and other plants and a view to the water. What a way to start a day. We took at taxi to the meeting place for the Balkan Road Trip a tour we will be on for the next three days. It is the only direct way to get from Croatia to Greece as travel is so hard between countries. Just how hard became evident immediately as we were informed the Croatian border police wouldn't let our Albanian plated mini bus into the country so we were...

Sep 29, 2011 - Kotor
Thursday 29th September 2011 Weather:-Beautiful Kotor, Montenegro I had been very eager to visit Kotor as I had read how beautiful the harbour was so my main aim was to get up before we entered the harbour in order to not miss out on any of it. I have to tell you first that a few days ago we had to put our watches forward by one hour and last night we must have sailed back into the Rome time zone as we had to go back an hour and as I do not wear a watch I rely on anyone around me to give me a clue about what the time is. Consequently this...

Sep 3, 2011 - Kotor
A couple of bus rides later we arrived in the absolutely picturesque town of Kotor, on the coast of Montenegro. Words cannot explain the scenery. The crystal blue waters of the bay, the cobblestone lane ways of the old town and the freaking amazing mountains. We fell in love. Our slightly eccentric guesthouse owner, Vuk, aided our stay by giving us the low down on the local places. We partied with his friends, ate Montenegrin cheese pie, and swam on the rocky beaches. One afternoon we tackled the many, many steps that led up to the fortress...

Sep 3, 2011 - Zabljak
In the hope of crossing the boarder into Bosnia we ventured north to Zabljak. Several hours on a bus later we arrived to discover this was not possible. Fortunately Zabljak is a very nice town situated on the edge on the Durmitor National Park. We took the opportunity and stopped for a couple of days to explore the said national park. On a particularly sunny day we ventured around the glacial Black Lake, well worth the visit.

May 21, 2011 - Sveti Stefan is not a swedish masseuse
Today, I went for a drive down the coast to see Sveti Stefan. A name you'll agree would be great for a masseuse or even a porn star. Sveti Stefan is currently an exclusive hotel on a small island just off the shore, with a bridge connecting it to shore. To the right of sveti Stefan is a beach just for those who can afford a room on the island. Only guests are allowed on the island. Its a shame that a hotel owns the island. I'm probably surprised they don't charge 10 euros for a day pass. Its very nice and photogenic so i drove up to the top...
