May 2, 2011 - Monte Carlo, Monaco

The city of Monte Carlo is in the small city of Monaco. Monaco is in the south of France and borders the Mediterranean. The biggest feature of Monte Carlo is their large casino. The casino of Monte Carlo is very immense and beautiful. Inside the Casino there is the Grand Theatre de Monte Carlo, which is an opera and ballet house. Also another really cool thing to see there is Monaco Grand Prix. This race is a formula one race and one of the most famous and prestigious races in motorsport. Sep 13, 2010 - Weekend Update

Okay so I've been lazy and haven't updated this in a few days...........but now this is going to be a super-long and informative post so that I can catch up on everything that happened this weekend!!!!!!! I'm going to break it down day-by-day though so that it's a little more cohesive and I don't start rambling. FRIDAY Waking up this morning gave me flashbacks to the tournament because I realized I'm going to have to be waking up early again every morning for school. That’s ok though, after this summer I’ve become a liiiittle bit more of a...

Sep 9, 2010 - Exploration

Today was a good day! I woke up bright and early (7:45 am), washed up and ate a bowl of cereal on our balcony, which just so happens to overlook the Mediterranean. Can't lie - it's a great way to start your morning. Even though it was a little overcast this morning, it was still beautiful, and the weather ended up being extremely sunny/hot as the day went on. I got on a 10:00 train to Nice-Ville because I had to make a little visit to the iPod store. I am the only human in the world who would go all the way to Europe only to realize that...

Jul 31, 2010 - Paris or Nice

Being a Saturday we weren’t sure how the buses ran, but we planned to get the 10:16am number six into the Avignon Centre so we could transfer onto the TGV Avignon bus to get the train. What a pain we had to get the train from another station. Well we were surprisingly ready earlier than expected and were waiting at the bus stop when a number three approached. After checking that yes it would take us to Avignon Centre we boarded. For a Saturday there was a lot of traffic going through Old Town, I guess with the festival on and road closures...

10 June Thursday Up early and onto the auto route pass through Nice and then into Monaco. Takes a while to get into Monte Carlo with everyone else but we make it and cruise around the streets. Parking is all underground and we are not that keen to take the beast in…might get stuck….but luck is with us as we head towards the Monte Carlo Casino there,s are a park outside Valentinos and its FREE! With Connors and Mums help we squeeze the beast into the park expertly. So we enjoy the sights of Monte Carlo. Boys cannot get over how many...

Oct 8, 2009 - Monaco

@@@@@@@ We were surprised to learn that we should purchase our ticket to Monaco from the driver, but dutifully stood in a queue at the bus bay to await the coach. When the bus arrived, there was a surge of people towards the door and the queue was lost in the crush. The tourists in line with us grumbled loudly that the French don’t stand in line, anywhere. It was a lesson we learned the hard way. We were lucky to get seats on the bus; the journey was over an hour and a half. We had been second and third in the original line. We’ve learned...

Jun 13, 2009 - A Quick trip to Monaco and off to Italy!

After our stop at the St. Tropez market, we hit the road to drive to Italy. Had a few delays (both had to call our banks because we had ATM issues but they took care of them) and we also got turned around a few times and our little detours were a bit time consuming so didn't get to spend as much time in Monaco as we had hoped. But, we did a brief stop and had just enough time to see the famous Monte Carlo Casino. That town was a total zoo and we had to double park just to get out to take a few photos and there was a line to get into the...

Jun 7, 2009 - Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous

After an horrendous 7.5 hours of travel, where we learnt that Italians may be able to build a house on the side of a cliff but they can't get a train to run on schedule, we arrived in Monte-Carlo some 2 hours late. The cause of our delayed arrival was due to two late trains, one of which caused us to miss our our high-speed train and force us onto a regional train that stopped, at every single stop between Genova, Italy and Monte Carlo! It was just painful! Thankfullly, our hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the train station and is...

May 27, 2009 - Monaco? or Monte Carlo

Wed 27th May---Weather:-28 going on 40 degrees Nice—Monaco (29km) “Catch the bus, the trains are on strike, its only 1 Euro ” that was the advice we got from the tourist office in Nice when we asked “what is the best way to go to Monaco”. This morning Herman and I lined up for the designated bus and all was civilized at the end of the long queue of people waiting to travel the 29k—all was civilized that is, until the bus pulled up and then it was every man for himself, except for 2 men who were kind enough to keep the hordes back to allow...

As a sign of the times kept around here breakfast starts at 9:00am. So it was a bit of a sleep in again, and then we had breakfast - the usual french fare of bread, jam, juice and coffee. Then we walked to the train station and caught a train to Monte Carlo, we had decided to checkout how the jetset lives. Monaco is preparing for the grand prix, so there is a lot of temporary barriers and seating going in. We walked along part of the track and it was amazing to see how tight the circuit is. It will be interesting to watch it on tv now that...
