Oct 27, 2006 - Swanning about on the French Riviera

Headng off from Lyon Tanya and I made sure we were the first ones on the coach this time!! We travelled via Avignon where we stopped for lunch and I had a Nutella crepe for lunch, yum and so much more refined than just eating it straight out of the jar like I normally do! Heading into the French Riviera was great, so refined, expensive and oh so glamourous. I'm spending 2 night here in Nice, in what is virtually a palatial suite compared to the teensy room that I had been sharing with Tanya up to now where we were sleeping about 10cm...

Jade's Big Trip 2006

Aug 4, 2006 - Monaco

Sure enough, 9am, the police arrived, we packed up, headed to the supermarket, ate breakfast at the beach further up the road, then pulled back into our spot about an hour later! After a nice morning swim, we jumped onto the train to Monaco for the day. Our first stop was to check out the marina, but we were a little disappointed, no mega yachts - although there were a few super yachts, still room for helicopters though! We then headed up the hill to the Palace of Prince Phillip, not as extravagant as we had expected though. The next...

Jul 21, 2006 - The French Riviera: Nice and Monaco

Hello again friends. I know my posts seem to come in waves now but it is often hard to find both the time and Internet accessibility. I'm in Florence, Italy now and decided to take it easy today so I'm catching up on posts. What can I say about the French Riviera... it was everything it is rumored to be. My first stop was in Nice. As much as I loved Spain it was very nice to get back into France, which reminds me of a story (excuse me as I digress). I decided to take my first night train from Barcelona to Nice. I've been avoiding them to a...

Jun 28, 2006 - Nice Day 1

I am shvitzing here in Europe... so hot, and sticky. Anyways, I went to the Mark Chagall Museum today. Some very cool looking artwork, I do not know if he is a good drawerer or not, for his art seems to be kid drawing looking stuff. But strill very good. I love his use of colours, and all the swtuff he puts in to one painting. It is also nice to see a Jewish painter painting mostly Jewish stuff. Its a nice break from all the pics of Jesus. Although I guess to a degree this is what it is like for others, not sure though. After Chagall I...

Europe - 2006

Jun 24, 2006 - Nice, France and Monte Carlo, Monaco

We wanted to see this money soaked alcove of Europe, but apparently its expensive to stay in, so we had to stay in crime ridden Nice, next door. It was not so bad though as we walked the streets at night and managed to not get mugged. We did meet some people in Corfu who had their camera stolen by a man dressed in a police uniform here though. Don't let locals who offer to take your picture take it from their motor bike was the lesson they learned. We walked down to the beach, the cote d'azure, where there are tonnes of cafes and bars and...

May 18, 2006 - Monte Carlo here we come

Checked out of the Cinque Terre and drove for our last day on those marvelous Italian roads. We drove into, well right past Monacco the first time, doubled back and found it right where the French left it. They're gearing up for the Grand Prix and the town was crazy! Found our hostel right next door in Cap D'Ail - in a beachfront mansion! Lifestyles of the rich and famous for us three, so we found some take out chicken and sat on our patios and ticked off how many ferrari's we had counted that day.

May 7, 2006 - Italy here we Come!

So it's time to say goodbye to France and hello to Italy but first (the highlight for me) Monaco. We arrive on a beautifully hot day at the start/finish straight of the Monaco Grand Prix and of course embark on a ful lap of the circuit taking in the sights of the town along the way. It may not have been the fastest lap the track has ever seen but it was incredibally enjoyable. How the drivers squeeze the cars through some sections fo the track I cannot imagine! It was such a buzz going through the famopus tunnel. Brilliant! Eventually we...

Wheels of Fire

May 4, 2006 - Monaco & traditional French meal

We got up today and took off to Monte Carlo, about 1.5hrs from Plan de la Tour. A very small country run by the Grimaldi family for over 700 years. It is a tax-free haven for the very rich and famous so as you can imagine many very beautiful cars, boats and people. We took a tourist train, outside the aquarium, which takes you around the city, showing you places like the palace where Prince Albert and the Grimaldi family live, the Cathedral where Grace Kelly was married, the Hotel de Paris where all the famous people stay and of course the...

Dec 26, 2005 - Playing in Monte Carlo

Dinner was had in Monte Carlo, the fairy tale playground of incredibly wealthy where after a quick visit to the casino's and losing 5 euros in approximately 5 seconds we decide our money was much better spent on alcohol and we retired to the bar - this was fast becoming a regular pastime for Haydes and I. Having had several long days on the bus and a couple of hotels where a selected few who were up at the crack of dawn received hot water a quick stop at a French Perfumery on Day 8 was in order. Then it was off for a night time view of the...

Oct 5, 2005 - Canadian travel companions through the south of France

I woke up at about 6am to some movement around the room we were sleeping in. There were some train people in the station and we could finally get some information on how to get where we were going. The first train got in from Portbou shortly after and I met this really nice Canadian couple from Winnipeg, Andre and Shani. They were headed to the same place in Italy as me, Cinque Terre, so we ended up passing much of the day together. We had a long day of train travel with like 5 changes all through the south of France, so it was pretty...

Aug 28, 2005 - Villefranche Sur Mer, France

Day trip to Villefrache Sur Mer. This place was really nice. It's been fun seeing the different landscapes of the French Riviera and its beaches. That is, Cannes having beautiful sandy beaches, Nice having rock beaches, Villefranche Sur Mer having pebble beaches, and Monaco having concrete slab "beaches". This is my last day in France before heading to Le Cinque Terra in Italy. Italy's Riviera.
