Aug 28, 2013 - Monaco - Monte Carlo 27 & 28 Aug 13

The tour left the boat on the morning of the 27th Aug and drove for three hours or so by coach to the Principality of Monaco. The Principality is just 2 square miles and situated in a lovely Bay along with Monte Carlo. I find it impossible to effectively describe the Principality, the Bay and the town as it is so different and fantastic. Monaco has obviously 'built up' Monte Carlo spreads to meet the Italian Boarder. The Resorts, hotels, Casinos and shops need to be seen to be appreciated. There is an abundance of wealth here that is hard...

Jun 17, 2013 - Nice, Monaco, and Eze

Saturday was quite the day. We all woke up and put on our same clothes we wore the two previous days. Well, not really all of us. The kids who took my advice and packed spare clothes in their carry on luggage had clean clothes, but not everyone followed my advice, including me. I actually decided to check my only suitcase, which I originally planned to bring as a carry on for this very reason, at the last minute. So alas, I was stuck feeling dirty all morning. We took a short bus ride to Monaco, which was quite interesting and beautiful,...

May 18, 2013 - Monaco and the French Riviera

Well after Italy we headed for Monaco and Monte Carlo, huge reputations for both places. Accommodation was very expensive anywhere in Monaco so we stayed just out at a place called Beaulier-Sur-Mer, a seaside town in France but only a 10 minute train ride to Monaco. We booked in at the Le Havre Bleu an small family owned and run hotel, very nice place, and the owners were very friendly. We got settled and went to a cafe that the owner had recommended where we had one of the nicest lunches I can remember. Jules & I both had the fish soup...

Aug 21, 2012 - Monaco, Ahhh how sweet she is

Hey People, few more tidbits bout last night. The girls turned out to be Australians. They were a lil drunk when they came into the room. Didn't bother me I was still up. They were doing the drunk the SHHH game. 'Hey, we are loud, Shhh, we'll wake everyone up.' It was rather amusing. Another note, Samuel, the German guy, he WALKED to Nice. Forget where he started from, but he's been walking for over 3 weeks. Averaging bout 25miles a day! Wow!  Anyhow, woke up Tuesday morning not knowing what day it was. Days are running together big time....

Jun 22, 2012 - Nice 2 / Monaco - The Good Times

I woke up feeling much better, 15 hours in bed does that. The people i saw said i didn't look like Casper the ghost anymore. I didn't want to waste the day so I bolted over to Monaco since I missed it earlier. It was mind-blowing. I saw 4 ferraris in a row, othe cars I didn't think existed. Hotels over the water, gigantic yachts, massive hills surrounding the blue sea. It was spectacular, and as unique a place I've ever seen. The wealth was almost laughable. However I couldn't help think of the trip i did to Peru 3 years ago and the absurd...

Jun 4, 2012 - To Lucca Italy via Monaco

Goodbye to Nice and off to Italy. But before getting onto the motorway there was a stop in Monaco. Driving in Monaco was not an easy task. Parking was even worse. First there was finding somewhere and then there was actually getting into one of the bays. Definitely made for little cars! Anyway we finally found a spot and Mike squeezed the car in without damage. He then stayed in the car while Yve, Pete and I took off. Pete fortunately had been there before so he found the Casino and from that area we took a photo of THE palace and then...

Europe 2012

Jul 16, 2011 - Monaco

Today was devoted entirely to Monaco. After a bit of deliberation last night, it was decided that it would be best for us to take the train to Monaco instead of driving 2 cars in. And that was a wise decision! We drove about 20 minutes to a small train station in Mouans Sartoux and took the train into Monaco. We arrived in Nice and then took the connecting train into Monaco. The entire trip took about 1 hour and 45 min and was quite uneventful other than the fact that the connecting train was really packed. We arrived in Monaco just about...

Jul 8, 2011 - Monaco

Today we purchased day train tickets went to Monaco (about 40min) and WOW what an amazing place, buildings built up the sides of the hills surrounding the narrow port area. When we walked out of train station, there was a wedding at the quaint little church on the edge of the Port. We then walked around the Marina again full of the most luxurious pleasure boats, a stunning black and chrome huge boat called 'SEA FORCE 1' you can rent for $300,000 per wk, with 12 crew!!!! Enjoyed strolling through the old town area and the Palace, still...

Jun 16, 2011 - Monaco, Monte Carlo and Menton, France

From Nice, we drove along the coast on the Moyenne Corniche, one of three scenic roads that run along parallel terraces on the cliffside between Nice and Monaco. This took us through winding curves and little hillside villages with scenic views of the sea and countryside. We drove into Monaco to a parking garage that could accommodate camping cars just long enough to get some information and decide if we would try to stay parked in the city itself or overnight elsewhere. The parking attendant was very helpful and suggested Menton as our...

Apr 17, 2011 - Monaco - Monte Carlo

The first day of our cruise ironically brought us back to France. We chose to skip the organized tours (which wouldn’t have been in English or French anyway) and decided to just disembark and take the costal train from Villefranche to Monte Carlo, 15 minutes away in the Principality of Monaco. The kids enjoyed checking out the mega yachts, some parked in the harbour with their matching Rolls or Bentleys on shore. We had a great mid afternoon ice cream near the Casino. We also oogled all the fancy cars, and checked out the F1 race...

Jun 26, 2010 - Le Principauté de Monaco

After what turned out to be quite a stressful week of job and house hunting we decided to take a day off on Saturday and catch the train to Monaco, fifteen minutes away. Arriving in the station in Monte Carlo, buried deep in the cliffs of the city we at once noticed how clean Monaco was compared to France. Once out in the daylight we became aware of how surreal this place is. The yachts in the harbour are more like ships, the shops displayed no prices in the windows and everyone looked ridiculously rich driving around the hairpin bends in...

May 16, 2010 - monaco GP

basically the owner of the super yacht that i work on owns a very nice large top floor apartment with a 43m balcony overlooking all of Monaco and he didnt want to use it for the Monaco GP so he let us (the Crew of one of his yachts) use it to watch the Monaco GP. so we ate salmon and procuitto and drank Leffe Beer and had an awesome time. opportunities like this dont just come up once in a lifetime for alot of people they never come up and it was a privilege to watch the race. Oh and to have Mark Webber (Australian) win was the icing on the...
