Jul 3, 2018 - Monaco

Monaco is like watching an episode of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.” I say, watching an episode becasue most of us arent’ driving Ferrari’s. Most of us are on foot, or are fortunate enough to have a little used motorbike. But, I have never seen so many people with perfect hair and perfect teeth driving the perfect convertible in my life. It’s actually a little funny to see all of these $100,000+ cars all over Monaco because there is no place to park. So, if you want to go to dinner, I’m thinking you have to leave the Ferrari in a...

PK to Europe 2018

Jul 2, 2018 - Back Across Italy

Set the GPS and headed out of San Marino. Next stop is Monaco. Monaco is actually the second smallest country in the world. Only Vatican City is smaller. The trip was pretty much without adventure until my GPS decided to give me a bit of excitement. I’m not sure why, but it decided to take me by some Italian person’s house in the middle of the Italian countryside. I was simply following directions, like a mindless robot. Suddenly, I realized that I was driving on little country roads instead of major freeways. I dismissed my first...

PK to Europe 2018

Jun 16, 2017 - A Little Bit Of Monaco, A Little Bit...

Up after 0530 for the facilities. Thought the shower door did not swing out so I of course immediately thought BB could never use it! Molasses Man aka Lou was taking forever at everything, telling him I was heading down early for brekkie moving him to 3/4's Molasses Man speed. We could have had brekkie outside but the tables weren't set up yet. The pool is only open at 1000 so diners do not have to look at undesirable shapes and sizes over their bacon and eggs. Decent spread for choice this morning. Lou and I wound up with tears of laughter...

Jun 15, 2017 - On The Tracks Again

Not exactly a solid sleep so up at 0530 to use the facilities first. Lou must read a chapter of 'War and Peace' every time he is in the loo. What else could take a guy so long? Made a few notes about the good and bad of A-B to date. The latter is winning hands down. As a general proposition of law, the more comfortable the hotel, the older the group, many issues falling along from that. The blog site is working though still have to sort out some of its oddities. Its biggest drawback is the uploaded pix are rather small, anything other than...

Sep 26, 2016 - Monaco, Cannes.

Friday 23rd Off towards Genoa, after a quiet lakeside walk with Blue. Took the toll road as the road ahead looks very winding. The signs are not good in Italy and even with the Sat nav we managed to somehow, halfway there, to go north instead of south, which cost us an hour and a few euros. We eventually reached the coast, turning west and reaching tonight's destination of a campsite east of Monaco. It had been a long tiring drive, so when we reached the site and found we couldn't even get into it as the incline was too sudden/steep for the...

Nov 25, 2015 - Monaco

Today we visited the Principality of Monaco. Monaco has an area of 2.02 km2 (0.78 sq mi) and a population of about 37,800(2014); it is the second smallest and the most densely populated country in the world. It is also known as the playground of the rich. First impressions are that it appears to be a very crowded city but we found it easy to drive in and park and then very pleasant to walk around. We started our exploration at Monte-Carlo and the famous Casino a very impressive building. Again there were some very high end shops and hotels...

Jun 16, 2015 - Leaving Cannes...heading to Monaco

This morning we boarded our bus headed to the Principality of Monaco. Monaco is located right on the French Riviera and is bordered by France on three sides and the Mediterranean Sea on the other border. It is a tiny area only about 3/4 of a square mile with only a little over 36,000 residents. It is the second smallest and the most densely populated country in the world. Its land border is only 2.7 miles long and it only has 2.5 miles of coastline. Monte Carlo is its most populous quarter. Monaco is a principality that is governed under...

May 8, 2015 - A visit to Monaco

Friday, May 8th. (VE day. Victory in Europe is a National Holiday in France, also our youngest son’s birthday) I think we took the long way around to the train station. We traveled over 4,000 paces getting there. There were 3 people ahead of us at the ticket window and they were all traveling a lot farther than us. As we waited, patiently, Bill was getting concerned that we would miss the train. I went out to one of the machines that sold “billets” but wasn’t able to understand how to get any. There was a group of policemen chatting beside...

Apr 24, 2015 - Neece (Nice) is nice

hard to imagine a country maybe 2 square miles, and the secomd highest population density in the world. It is perched on cliff over the Med. It has a storied past:. granpa was a prince, dad was a prince. The previous princess was Grace Kelly from Hollywood. The prince is a prince and is married to a princess who just gave biirth to twins....where was I for that?! population says 30,000, looks like a lot more. packed in so tight, it makes Singapore look nearly rural. There must be some advantages to living there, or else why would so many...

Oct 2, 2013 - Monaco

Monaco Today we visit the small Principality of Monaco. We weren’t sure what to expect but were greeted by a small, beautiful harbour and a wall of high rises; some beautiful old looking buildings others a concrete mess that should not have been allowed. Once ashore we walked uphill to the railway station to catch a train to Nice a 20 minute ride away. In Nice the sun was shining as we strolled along the promenade des Anglais looking at the people lying on a very pebbly beach. There was a market on in the old town with all the usual veg,...

Sep 10, 2013 - Day #4 Nice & Monaco

Bonjour! Today we decided to sleep in and didn't make it back to the market as originally planned. We started our day off around 2:30pm local time once again on the Promenade de Anglis with lunch at the Hyatt on The Terrace. We decided to then explore the area once again and had a snack of tea and lemon meringue tarts. We felt it would be best if we changed for dinner before heading to Monaco. So while waiting we had an impromptu photo op Some background on Monaco, it is a completely different country than France, and it is a hour from...

Aug 29, 2013 - Monaco - Monte Carlo 28 & 29 Aug 13

We have had some good walks around Monaco the past two days and a lovely dinner at the hotels Terrace Restaurant overlooking the sea. We went to the Casino Monte Carlo last night after dinner, but we did not bump into James Bond. This morning we wandered down to the beach and had a swim in the 'Med' and then returned to the hotel for a swim in the hotel pool. The weather is very warm with a hot sun when not in the shade. We are having a lazy afternoon and will walk down to one of the Brasserie's along the beach for dinner before having a...
