Mar 6, 2005 - Palenque, the ruins and Merida

Lat night we stayed in probably the dodgiest accom we have ever stayed in.... WE arrived in Palenque at about 11:00pm and got a cab to the hotel we planned on staying at.. we knew we were only going to be there for the night and leaving early in the morning so we only wanted something cheap.. We arrived at this place and they said they had one room left but it was 450pesos which is over double what we have pàid fir any accom in mexico so we told the guy to jam it.... we found this little place across the road which was basically a farm...

Jan 3, 2005 - Merida, Mexico

there was a festival all week because it was the anniversery of the towns establishment. but that just meant that there were performances every night in the town square, and to tell you the truth they got kinda boring after a while. the night of the fourth we decided to try to find a satelite tv so that Ben and the rest of us could watch his alma mater (usc) play for the national championship. it took us about an hour to figure out what channel it was on that then communicate to different bars or resteraunts that we wanter them to turn it...

Nov 25, 2004 - Merida and ancient site of Dzibilchatun

Merida and ancient site of Dzibilchatun: I arrived in Merida this Thursday afternoon the 25th. I went from quaint, pristine and refreshing in Campeche to dirty, smelly, crowded, neglected, un-repaired and old peeling paint and downright nasty city of Merida. What a shock. I wasn't expecting this mess. (Most of it was in the downtown area and I did find some cleaner areas on the outskirts of town). I had in mind a cute colonial town like Campeche turned out to be. No way. A taxi took me to the Delores Alba hotel. Not much on the outside but...

Two months in Mexico

Sep 6, 2004 - Merida

Finally managed to drag myself away from Isla Mujeres. Haven't done much but sit on the beach for the last week, which was just what the doctor ordered. But I have to get back to Mexico City in about a week and ought to see some of the sights along the way so have hooked up with Rosa from Melbourne and hopped on the bus.
