We are stopping for two nights to catch our breath and have a nice dinner before heading south. We took a bus tour out to El Tajin Ruins and watched the Papantla Flyers. The El Tajin Ruins were only discovered about 20 year ago and 20 pyramids have been restored. They say more theny170 remain still to be uncovered. The most interesting is the ball courts and wall carvings that tell the story about the captain of the winning team would have his head decapitated and his blood would spill on the ground renewing it for the new crop. Feb 12, 2007 - Costa Esmeralda, MX - Emerald Coast

Our day started out a little cloudy and foggy, but, as we headed south, the skies brightened and the sun peeked out, a welcome sight from all the rain and gloom. Destination today is 230 miles away at Nautla or Costa de Esmeralda; we are now in the state of Veracruz. Getting out of the town of Tampico was a challenge with lots of auto traffic, school zones, and pedestrian traffic. I think I almost got Joe arrested.
