Dec 28, 2018 - Trip to Mexico Again

We went back to Mexico today. I had a tooth that cracked and needed a filling. I got it fixed in a few minutes for $50 and was out the door ready to shop. :-) We went to Linda’s Pharmacy and stocked up on our meds, I bought a year’s supply for 1/10 of the cost in the United States, for the exact medication. After the two chores were finished, we walked and shopped till we dropped. I love the jewelry in Mexico, I bought a beautiful turquoise necklace and earrings for only $15. I had to hold off buying a lot more, they have such great deals....

Oct 2, 2018 - Fun in Mexico

We had a wonderful day, we went on a day trip to Mexico. We drove about 65 miles to Weslaco, Texas and then took highway 1015 directly into Neuro Progress Mexico. This is a very popular Mexican town with South Texans and snowbirds visiting the area in the winter. This was our first trip into this part of Mexico, we loved it. We parked our car in a parking lot right next to the bridge for $2 a day. We walked across the bridge, taking pictures of the Rio Grande River in the middle of the bridge. You can walk right into Mexico without showing...

Feb 9, 2018 - Visiting South of the Border

Friday we went with another couple to Mexico to visit the city of Nuevo Progreso in the State of Tamaulipas. We drove to the US Mexican Border where we parked on the US side and walked over the International Bridge. We put 50 cents in the turn style and off we went to Mexico. It only costs 25 cents to get back in the US. This tiny border town draws tourists for its artistry, good food, pharmacies and numerous dental offices. Spending a few hours walking around was quite an experience. Every other store front seemed to be a dental office...

Jan 16, 2017 - Starting to Unwind But Keeping Busy!

Life in a RV has a way of relaxing you. Today the list of chores was short and sweet. Get the washer and dryer up and running after being winterized was number one on the list ... what could go wrong there? Hang on, haven't we heard that line before? In the process of pulling out the machine so we could reconnect the waterlines... somehow the tap way in the back suddenly got turned on... quick thinking Michelle ran outside and turned off the water for the whole bus in time to then soak up, with our assortment of beach towels, the spill. No...

Texas Again

Apr 27, 2016 - Zapata, TX

Apr. 27th. Zapata, TX. Well, to continue with our narrative. On Fri. the 22nd. the boys finally got a day out on the lake fishing with a guide. Several reasons to have a guide - he has a boat, he knows where the best places on the lake are to fish, and he will keep everyone out of Mexican waters... maybe the most important feature, at least to Cara and me who really did want our fisherman to return to us and in one piece! Anyway, it was a very successful day for them. They fished from 7am until 3pm. Caught lots of fish, the 'biggest' ones...

Apr 22, 2016 - Falcon State Park,

We left El Paso and headed to Falcon Lake Resevoir. Stopped at Marathon, then Del Rio and on to Laredo, TX. Just the normal stuff on the way, decamp, set up, Happy Hour and dinner and maybe some TV or a movie. Stopped during the days at a picnic area and had lunch. Texas greening up with the bushes leafing out and a lot of the cacti in bloom. Spent a couple of days in Laredo at the Lake Casa Blanca International State Park (the only RV park within about 50 miles in either direction). It was nice and the boys tried some fishing in the lake....

Border Crossing today was VERY Interesting!!!! Here's How it went!!! Started out with a rain delay (and groggy start from the evening before) FED EX-shipped our heated gear back to CO Dairy Queen Make up time to get over the border BORDER DELAY-Thanks to Justin not letting MEXICO know he took the bike out of the country when he was here in 2010!!! Tour de Mexico

Jan 19, 2012 - Nuevo Progreso Mexico

Since we were out of some of my medications, we decided to head over to Progreso today. We also decided to get our teeth cleaned. We parked in our usual parking lot right outside Progreso for $5 for the day. Then we walked across the bridge over the Rio Grande River. Then we headed straight to the dentist's office. We have been going to Dr. Jorge Muestre to get our teeth cleaned. He is pretty popular and the exam rooms and clinic are sparkling clean with up-to-date dental equipment. When we arrived we were told that there was a two hour...

Our 2012 Travels

Mar 10, 2011 - Nuevo Progreso - Mexique

Which Way Home???

Aug 9, 2010 - On the Border...

No update on Carolina. I have contacted two Casas del Migrante and included a picture of her in case they find her. Wish I could go back in time and do something differently. Unfortunately this is not a Hollywood ending. We will never know for sure how this story ends... I am on the Border, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. It has been an exhausting and draining month of fieldwork. I am ready to go home and eat Cup of Noodles...with shrimp. Over the last 30 days I've seen thousands (well maybe hundreds) of faces. I've met people whose stories...
