Sep 30, 2006 - San Cristobal

Hola people, I arrived in San Cristobal de las Casas yesterday via the bus from Palenque on the most winding road I have ever encountered, through the Lacandon Cloud Forest. To be honest, i didn't see anything of the forest, I dozed for most of it. We had been warned about the road earlier so I took travel sickness pills and was fine but not everone was as fortunate. More than a few people ended up worse for wear after that 5 hour trip. "The true traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time." - Colette,...

Jade's Big Trip 2006

Jan 23, 2006 - Going to Villahermosa

We're on our way to the Yucatan and the Mayan ruins. This was really a day of traveling but there are a few things worth mentioning. I had never flown on Continental Airlines before and it was certainly a pleasant surprise. We left shortly before lunch so we had bought a sandwich and fruit to share. Imagine our surprise when a snack lunch was served at no charge. That hadn't happened in a long while. Not only that but both flights; Chicago to Houston and Houston to Villahermosa left and arrived on time!! The Continental terminal was under...

Dec 31, 2004 - VillaHermosa, Mexico

We only spent one night and one day in Villahermos. It was a pretty lively, fun town though. We saw our first Burger King and Dominoes there. There was about a 10 story high bridge that we climbed up and you could see the whole town. There was also an amazing church at the town center. At night we went to one of the town sqares and we watched a bunch of people dance. It sounds weird but they brought out a stereo and one guy had a whistle and was directing the whole thing. There were about 25 or 30 people, and they all knew the dance. It was...

Nov 20, 2004 - Villahermosa

Villahermosa: Nov 20 This is Sat the 20th. I made it to Villahermosa. I caught the bus at the station just in the nick of time. The ride overnight was less eventful and noisy than the past several nights. Just an observation, many of the busses travel overnight and the five times I had to take one was because there were no busses traveling by day to the destinations I was going. I arrived at 6:30 this a.m. I took a taxi to the hotel. I had to get a room at the Howard Johnson as there were no hostels here and they answered my e-mail. This is...

Two months in Mexico

Jul 27, 2004 - Cardenas, Mexico

Well, these entries won´t be as fun as most...no pictures, and no big highlights. We do have some great pictures from the Mayan ruins at Palenque, but do not have an internet connection suitable for the uploads. We visited Palenque after driving from Chetumal, and were surprised at their beauty and grandier. We weren´t sure that any Mayan sites could impress us after Tikal, but Palenque was a great place. After walking the grounds, we continued to a lively little town called Cardenas. This city was not touristy in the slightest, and we...
